Which one do they think is the best?
Having read the article last night it does not come out and say clearly which is best between the 2 bikes, it says the Honda is more reliable and has better build quality while the Suzuki is the more modern design and 'plusher.' They also commented on the Running costs for both are lower than other types of bikes with the second hand prices of the Suzuki being lower.
Bit naff saying the V-strom is more modern in design when they are reviewing the Transalp 650 when the 700 has been available for over a year!
if they said the TA was best we would all go woohoo and say at last a magazine that appreciates the finer qualities of motorcycles and not bhp.
if they said Vstrom we we go boooo and say they are technophiles and just don't get the finer qualities of the TA.
2001 Transalp XLV650. Faithful old friend still chugging away nearly 100,00miles
2007 Varadero XLV1000. Now you're torquing but sadly gone to another forum member. One of the best bikes - period.
Yamaha XT660r - slowly getting it ready for some big adventures
The TA has never been a big favourite among bike magazine test riders. It is obvious why when you have a look of almost any magazine. The bike dealers give them the latest Fireblades and Supersports that, if you look at the pictures, can only be ridden in two positions. Either on track with the rider's knee on the asphalt or on the road (!) with the front wheel pointing the sky. No wonder the TA is labelled as 'extremely boring'.
Those who do even bother to touch it, mostly admit it is a 'get you (almost) anywhere in comfort' bike and virtually indestructible. As one tester put it, it will keep you away from hospital and magistrate.

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: Quotes: Adventure
It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.
