    Airbox mods

My Transalp 650 has a complete Arrow exhaust without the DB-killer and a KN-filter.
The next step will be to remove the snorkel and drill som holes in the airbox lid.
I guess everybody have drilled the holes at the front.
Why not open the hole where the snorkel was?
I am looking for more midrange torque.
I read in a German magazine where the tuned a Triumph Truxton.
The first they did was to open the intake in the airbox and install bigger main jets. And they got more midrange torque.
All 650 Transalp already has bigger main jets when we removes the cat.
    We only need more air.
    Any ideas?

I think most people would say "don't bother".

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

I drilled Sharries old TA with 6 20 mm holes made sound a little better but it improves the breathing.

    Re: Airbox mods

    Hi Clauscbf

I did a similar modification to a Husqvarna 610 a few years back - replaced the standard catalytic exhausts with free'er breathing cans and drilled some holes in the side of the airbox. Much better sound and the feel of the bike was much more lively.
However, the biggest transformation came with it being set-up properly on a rolling road dyno. The transformation was amazing over standard, and the bike gained a good 12% bhp with smoooth running all the way through the rev range and an increase in economy of 10% on top

Unlikely that you will achieve these sort of gains on an Alp, but the value of proper set-up shouldn't be forgotten

    Good luck

    Re: Airbox mods

Apart from an 06 TA my off roader proper is a Suzuki DR250RS. In a spate of enthusiasm a couple of years ago I swopped the exhaust for a so called performance can, removed the snorkel and opened up the air box, fitted larger main jet. Now running with the original much quieter stainless exhaust and question whether the air box and jet mods were worthwhile, without a before and after dyno -who knows. Now I would question the wisdom of junking the snorkel which is designed to act as a resonator and improve the air intake volumes. As I understand it long snorkel = better bottom end, short snorkel = better top end. I was rerferred to some excellent threads on the same subject some time ago- think it was BTBLOKE.
