    XL700 Crash Bars

Having scared myself to death with the lovley mixture of black ice, diesel, oil and mud that's been liberally spread on most the roads over the winter in Lancs, I've deceided it's time for some crash bars for the new alp (no name for it yet.. just the critter..) .

Anyone got any fitted on a 700 and do you have an pics / comments ? Looked at the TT ones and seem ok, but would like feedback on others if poss !

(The ABS on the 700 save me twice this weeked - never been a fan of ABS on bikes in the past but a true convert now after it stopped me going over a bridge in the Trough of Bowland !!!)

Here's a few pics of the Motech crashbars.

    Re: XL700 Crash Bars

Fitted Givi bars and had a slow off on black ice in December. Bars saved the fairing panels, however, the lower side of the bottom cowling was heavily scuffed and the brake pedal was pushed into the side of the crankcase resulting in a 4" indentation and bent pedal!

Although the Givi's are easy to fit, based on my experience I do not think they offer as much protection as I expected. The Touratech or SW Motech Bars may be a better bet. Having seen the Touratech bars at the NEC Show my immediate impression was that in my case, the bike may have come off slightly better, as they may have stopped the brake pedal from being pushed in so far.

    Re: XL700 Crash Bars

I've got the GIVI bars and haven't had a fall in them, I was side swiped by a car though and although I felt the wing pressing on my leg lightly, the bars were taking all the force of the car and I just altered course away from it. The bike was very stable and didn't wobble at all either.
