    tiny hole in exhaust ?

This morning got my bike out for a trundle around and noticed exhaust steam coming from the very bottom of the can near the join.
Further inspection there is a tiny hole but it looks perfectly round (about 2-3 mm) and looks as though it's always been there?

I'm prepared to feel stupid once someone tells me it's meant to be there for some reason, but thought i should ask?

    Cheers

That hole is meant to be there, as it's a drain hole.

Sorry, if I'm the one to make you feel daft. But this question comes up more often than you would credit.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Not very. but when it rusted through and the drain hole became the same size as the exhaust hole you would have been in poverty.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Re: tiny hole in exhaust ?

    kindof on topic,

I once had a 2CV fail an MOT for a holed exhaust.

When I pointed out that said hole was a drain hole, and that genuine Citroen exhausts (rather than pattern exhausts) were thus euipped, and that perhaps the nice tester might like to check with Citroen directly, if the fact that the hole was perfectly round and in the ideal position for a drain hole wasn't enough.

It did (grudgingly) pass but given how much the MOT tester's colleagues were laughing at him I thought it best not to go back there again!!

Particularly as it was a bright green 2CV with 1 flourescent pink, 1 flourescent blue, 1 flourescent orange and 1 flourescent yellow wheel (well I was young) so it was rather memorable...

Funny you should say about the hole in the exhaust. Just yesterday I called into my Honda main dealer to find out about this "Rusty Hole" in my exhaust, and was informed "It is a drain hole sir, it is meant to be there". Fatmal
