    tarnished wheels transalp 650

Just bought my 2nd Transalp after having a brief spell with the sports bikes. Trying to get it back to mint but the wheels are tarnished. I have tried wire wool and autosol but they are still not coming up good. Summers getting close and I would like her on top form by then, any help would be great.

I'm afraid that you've come across one of the few Transalp shortcomings. The wheels are a s*d to keep in pristine condition. Personally, I'm resigned to the fact that the wheels on my TA are not perfect, but I'll try to make sure that they don't get any worse. Besides, you can't seem 'em whilst you're riding.

Welcome to the Asylum, by the way.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Thanks for the advice.
The bike is no where near new but the wheels are the only thing that let it down. Funny how with all the good points your eye is always drawn to the bad one.

    Welcome to the forum, kingscoteabc.
There are firms out there that can refurbish the wheels depends on what you are after.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I have the same problem. Someone mentioned brasso, rubbed on with tin foil although I have no idea if this was a joke to see how stupid I was....

I have a set of wheels for the AT that have corrosion on the rims

I cleared the corrosion and resprayed the wheels with primer, wheel paint and lacquer. It's a cheap and quick / efficient fix if the spokes are in good condition - down time only 1-2 days.

Otherwise you can get the rims anodized or powdercoated and fit new spokes - more expensive but you'll get that minty finish - down time can be weeks

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

think i might look for some second hand rims then have them coated to match the bike.
