    cold engine surging niggles.

    G'day all!

When my TA is cold, it's surges like a wild thing. This cleares up when its run a bit and getting warmer.
I know its not too much of a problem, but I've noticed it's getting worse and i'd like to do something about it.

I'm assuming I have to do something to the carborator, but I've no clue what. (I'm new to this dont you know...)

So any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

    What exactly is it doing?
The engine should run smooth from start unless the carbs are well out of balance.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

It feels as if its not getting enough petrol.

I suppose the same feeling as when you are about to run out of fuel.

    hi yahoo,
had similar problem with my 650ta, did a plug clean on the 2 plugs that are easy to get to, then did a short 10mls ride enough to get engine warm then when home did another plug check. The front was black and sutty so checked the choke plungers and found they were not disengaging fully.

so pulled back the rubber protector boot on the carbs [hard to get too] and squirted with wd40 , bingo no more probs but will have to remember to clean more in winter us.

    hope this helps

    Nice one tramp!

I've just taken off the rubber boot and sprayed some gt-85 everywhere. Was there somewhere specific I was supposed to lube 'cos all i saw was a silvery metal thing.
Also do i have to clean the spark plugs now?

    hi yahoo.
remove spark plug before going for a ride and have a look at the colour, then give them a quick brush with the old wire brush or some petrol on a rag.

ref choke plunger- if you look on the lefthand side of the bike [not exhaust side] the choke cable from the bars is one piece but splits into two -one cable to each carb. it goes through a small rubber cover into the carb held on by a small nut 10mm/8mm I think. If the choke is off at the handel bars their should be enough free play to allow you to just pull the rubber cover back with long nozed pliers and then spray away with the long tube attached to the lube.

Basically the water when it rains/condensation flows down the cable from the bars and stops in the carbs were the plunger sits , to save removing the rubbersetc in the future just run some light oil down the cable while applying the choke or use a cable tool, we have a long syringe .

If you have a haynes manual it should show the carb choke plunger, if you dont go and buy one
