    Front Brake Discs

I need to change both the front disc's on my 1998 TA, any one out there know the best place to buy them..? My local Honda dealer want's £54 +VAT for each disc, does seem a good price. Any one think they might know better.

From reading threads I understand most of you say original pads are best.

    Regards.

Try David silvers and Wemoto's to see what they charge for the discs, but stick with original pads.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Re: Front Break Discs - WARNING !!

i WILL PASS ON FOR ANYONES REFERENCE.... There is mention in Feb Bike Mag of "Kagizume" discs that are sold on Fleabay.

The guy did one 10 Minute session on track (wet session on road tyres) & they warped !! He heard of another buyer having same prob !!

They look to be the "flash types" beloved of the ilk who def DONT ride Transalps !! But just in case they offer them for our steed BE WARNED !!

Discs for my VFR were closer to £200 each....! [Don't remember the exact figure] I even tried using a pair of EBC discs together with EBC pads, great in the dry but in the wet - heart stopping! Needed a few rotations to get the water off before they'd start to slow you down.

So it was grab the brakes a second or 2 before you needed them, or squeeze really hard to dry them off then release before they started working and made you do an emergency stop.

In the end I had to do something about them, so I changed bike and bought the TransAlp.......

For me that was lesson learned - buy original discs....

You may also want to replace the disc bolts - Honda specify replacing them with new when you change the discs, primarily because the threads of the bolts are treated with their own proprietary loc-titey stuff. I guess you could maybe clean up the old ones and use some (low strength) loc-tite retainer. Personally, I'd go for new bolts - cheaper than something coming adrift and needing a new bike, face, etc... The bolts need to be pretty tight (about 42 Nm if I recall right).

    Thanks Mandobear,

When I ordered discs and pads I got a new set of discs bolts, think old bolts will need a little heat to get them out, like you say better to play safe.

Had a quick look at Wemoto, £60 + P&P looks like the local stealer has came good...

But it should be easy enough to change the bolts at a later stage - you wouldn't even have to drop the rear wheel out, just change them one at a time and roll the bike forward...
