    Handlebar replacement

Hi All, the handlebars on my 2004 Transalp are very badly pitted with rust spots, to the point that I think I want to replace them. I have been looking at Renthal but am confused with all the different types, Fat Bars, Street fighters, Twinwall's So which ones ? Mainly road riding, bit of off roading, no enduro, something Bt can't break or bend, Is it a hard job to change them, do I need to drill a hole for switch gear ? HELP and recommendations needed by our resident bike boffins, or anyone else for that matter ! Ta !

    Re: Handlebar replacement

    I had same dilemma G.O.G

I did read somewhere Renthal "Dakar High" recc - got to look at Dakar Medium at weekend (shop didnt have high in stock) & i think the post i saw is right.

I bin looking for some that dont pull back as far & these seem to be the answer.

Who can decide on bars from the Renthall chart ? Certainly not me or you eh !! I dont think there is any substitute for "offering up" alternatives !!

Of course bike shops that actually "stock" handlebars seem few & far between - but with Renthal in particular the cost makes it prohibitive for shops to stock a wide variety on the offchance of sales.

When i wer a lad every shop kept a good selection but ALL bikes had bars in them days rather than custom mades

Its easyier to cut the tab of the switch gear than drill the bar, allows it to twist in a spill to and break less.

Renthals are loads better than stock bars, but maybe BT couldn't break them,I used to get through 2 or 3 sets a year. I've a couple of straightish sets in the garage if you want to try some out.

Fitted Renthal Dakar High bars to my TA, they are as close as you will get to standard, very slightly lower and 10mm or so wider. They fit no problem just cut the tab off the inside of the switch gear as Mudwiz said. Even though they are that little bit wider all the switch gear etc fits ok.

Do you find they dont come as "far back" as std ? (the "Sweep" i think they call it)

& is there enough room at each end for "Full Length Grips" rather than the narrow ones fitted to TA as std ? Am looking to fit full length ones as bein arfritic it helps to have "room to move".

    Yr feedback welcomed Cheers Silvalp

I've got the standard grips on mine, but it looks like there should be enough room to take a slightly longer one. The sweep is only a fraction less than standard, so little that i don't notice it.
