    Piston ring seals

Have decided to overhaul front pair of calipers due to rings apparently sticking, and levers not releasing properly> As well as bleeding fluid and replacing perished ring seals what else needs doing?

And whats best way to get piston rings sout to replace seals?

    Cheers in anticipation

New pistons and replace brake line with braided version. Well that's what I have been thinking.

Wemoto do a front caliper seals pack £30, I think its only for one caliper i.e £60 for both, and then the pistons are £20 a pop I've seen Goodridge hoses on ebay for £55, that's front & rear. So all in all not a cheap refurb espicially if the pistons are US.

Did mine last year using the seals from Wemoto and braided hoses - worked fine and pistons cleaned up perfect so didn't need to replace them.

that's what I did but not the hoses. I was convinced the pistons would need replacing but at the price I thought I would wait and see what they were like. Have you seen the thread, in bike tech I think, about a guy in the scottish borders doing a full caliper refurb service for about £60.

To get the pistons out I just removed the caliper from the forks and separated the mounting bracket (pulls off) then carefully pumped the lever making sure both pistons were coming out at about the same rate. One side was OK; on the other they weren't so I just held one piston back a bit with a small g clamp then pumped the stuck one out a bit, then the free one, and so on 'til I could wiggle free by hand. Then I undid the banjo and did the rest of the job at a clean workbench

On reassembly the Wemoto kit includes all seals and rubber boots so I coated it all with copperease after a gentle rub down with emery. Worked OK for me.

    good luck

I always find a bit of red rubber grease helps after a caliper overhaul. Smear a bit around the piston, gently push them in with a small g-clamp, pump them out gently and repeat a few times to get the grease where it is needed. It makes the pistons slide more easily, provides a better seal and keeps the seals from drying out.

I always use that when I rebuild/overhaul callipers. Copper grease is good too....
