    Transalp 600 Engine Removal

    Hi Chap(ess)'s.

I'm stripping stuff getting the bike ready to remove the engine...

Paused to read the Haynes and noticed that it says that one of the engine mounting bolts doubles as a swing arm bolt.

I've got the bike on a rear paddock stand.......

I s'pose I'll have support it differently (Airwolf's milk crate version ?) but I thought I'd better check on here first....

    Thanks. Kevin

So it is...just had a look.

Should be able to do something else.

    QUESTION:

Do I need to take everything off the carbs and remove them from the bike to remove the engine.
I thought I saw a mechanic just move them out of the way when he checking out the camshaft etc...

If the move out of the way then just do that, if they get in your way then you may have to remove them.
I would try without removal first.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I think he means he hung the bike from the ceiling. It's probably possible to just push the carbs out of the way. Bottom line is the carbs are going to come off anyway and the airbox duct gets in the way of loads of things as well. I'd suggest:
    1. take of the air duct, then,
    2. take off the carbs (from the motor) but leave the cables and breathers attached if you can and tie them out of the way.

Take photos or diagrams as you go. Routing of cables and such can be very frustrating.

Hung the whole bike from headstock and frame! With back tyre on the deck and tank etc off it weighs a lot less.

If they're strong enough to hold a room full of furniture and the people in it that's surely enough for a bike? Maybe not so good in a bungalow or the top floor.
A mechanic I know used this system.
