    CONTI TKC 80'S on tarmac

Just coming to the end of life of a set of Anakees which have been great but mainly on tarmac.Considering replacing with TKC 80'S for increased gentle green lane use. I would greatly appreciate any comments on the performance of TCK 80'S ON tarmac wet and dry for grip and noise.

Terrific tyres Kenn, off and on road, although you need to be a bit more cautious in the wet, than with Anakees. Also unlike Anakees they don't give much warning when they are about to "let go" on dry tar,so no drifting the back end as you can with the Michelins ! . Only trouble is they flatten out pretty quick with road use giving only 3500/4500 mls usable life as opposed to 6000/8000 mls with Michelins. Really a good tyre for offroading but if it's only occasional I would, and do, stick with Anakees ( this is of course a personal view )

I too would be inclined to stick with the Anakees, if you are only occasionally going off road.
The tread pattern of the TKC's is blocky so you have less rubber on the tarmac therefore slightly less grip, OK on dry roads but not so on wet.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

You'll hate them for a few days coz they feel weird. Drop in corners much quicker but they do stick well for knobblies. Once you get used to them they are fine. 3k for a rear 5k for a front.

They do wear rapidly on tarmac.
    Excellent grip in sand though

When the rear tire gets half worn, the rear behaves badly in twisties.

Had them on my KLR, Since fitting them I had far more confidence in the corners wet or dry than with the previous Avon Gripsters.

Re: CONTI TKC 80'S on tarmac

Personally, I am impressed with the TKC's but they don't half disappear on tarmac! I have dropped mine off for Tourances ready for a run out later this week with Jaqueslemac, a wee jaunt round France for 7 days.....

They will be put back on for the Rhayder weekend mind I know "in theory" that Stanbloke is putting together some easier routes, but I will be coming home up the Corvedale in South Shropshire and might deviate off piste for a wee spell!

Oh yes, they look well impressive too, not that would be the reason anyone puts 'em on, oh no, of course not

Re: CONTI TKC 80'S on tarmac

Bought my first set of TKC 80's a few months back; must say I am highly impressed with them in the dirt (obviously), but am more impressed at how good they are on the road. I recon this is achieved though with a softish tyre compound, therefore they wear pretty quickly on tarmac, especially the rear...but guess you can't have it both ways. I will be buying them again, so enough said really.
Basically as others have said, if you do a lot of road work they will disappear pretty quickly...but can't fault them otherwise.
You can see them on my Transalp and other stuff on Flickr below

    Hope this is of help

    Cheers
