    Re: Transalp wheels

Hello and welcome to the forum.
The transalp rims are notorious for rotting, I would be very surprised if wheels from another bike will fit. Get them rebuilt it is easier.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I'm in the same boat as I have one of those PSNI bikes too. My wheels are the same and I've tried everything I can think of to get them clean. Sadly I have to report that I have had little success. It appears they are prone to deterioration in bad weather. All I could do was give them a good clean with hot water, bike cleaner and a wee scrubbing brush. They look better than before but not quite right.
My back wheel is much worse than the front. It looks like the only real solution is to have them removed and get someone to strip them and get them re-finished, but I don't know anyone who does it. But I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find out.

I don't know where you are in NI, but try Lester Engineering in Lisburn. Their website says they will repair and restore wheels.

    Hi Scutle
I'm in Portadown. I don't know for sure if they do bike wheels but it might be worth asking them. If they do then please let me know. I might consider it myself at some point if I can afford it!

    Re: Transalp wheels

Following this thread with interest as I wouldn't mind getting my own done. Thankfully no sign of corrosion, just would like to get them re-spoked as they are looking a bit crap.

    Re: Transalp wheels

Just ordered new rims and stainless spokes from Central Wheel Components Limited as I was fed up with the corrosion on the original rims... not sure how easy it would be to refurbish the old ones as the corrosion seems to eat right into the metal. Anyway I splashed out and just got to wait for them to appear ....

    Re: Transalp wheels

The worry is what happens next when corrosion takes hold around the spoke holes!! I've noticed this with my '03 Alp and have "set the wheels in motion" to have the rear wheel rebuilt with a polished ally "Morad" rim and Stainless spokes---£180.00, not just for cosmetics but also peace of mind. I expect a bit of a wait, as the rim and spokes come from Central Wheel, most wheel builders buy from them, and they are busy, but expect to get a bit quieter when the sun shines. I'll report as things progress.
