    Fan question

    Hi guys!

Weather is slowly starting to improve here in Barcelona, and average temperatures raise as well, so traffic jams are also becoming hot as hell.

    My question is:

Is there any way to check if my TA's fan is working?? I say so because ever since I own her (since January) I've never noticed it spinning!

Confirmation: there's only one fan, isn't it?

And, BTW, at which position of the temp gauge do your fans start spinning? So far I have never reached at all the center of the gauge, but today, as I was going to my studio downtown the gauge almost got there but no fan-noise perceptible?

Please give your opinions because I'd be still in time to fix it before spanish summer arrives!!

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Fan question

Unlike Yamaha, fan on varadero and transalp took ages before kicking in.
I remember waiting for at least half an hour in warm uk weather.

    Re: Fan question

I think the TA's fan works much like the AT's.

So, just disconnect the fan connector at the thermostatic switch and touch the connector female spade connector to the bike's frame in order to supply ground to it. The Fan should start moving (mind your fingers!)

If not, check your fuse box.

It only comes on rarely. Really only on slow heavy work: traffic jams, sand, slow technical or uphills offroad etc. In my experience it doesn't make any difference whether the weather is hot or cold (within reason). Test it by jumping the positive lead straight to your battery ie: bypass the switch. Top of the scale on my 600 before the fan cuts in..... And yes there's only one fan.

    Re: Fan question

My Transalp fan has only come on once and that was when I managed to get the temp up to near the red.
Most of the time is stays around the middle of the gauge.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

hi stumpy..... bit curious about what you say. if your fan cut in close to the red then doesn`t that mean the thermo switch is opening a bit too late? only asking as mine normally cuts in bang on centre mark. stays between cold / centre whilst on the move and only moves to centre when held up in traffic etc.......then fan most likely kicks in !!

I had not filled the coolant to the correct level and it overheated, that is the only time it has run, normally it does not get to the middle.
I think the temp is set to 100 degrees +/- a couple of degrees.

    Re: Fan question

Yeah, the coolant is something I've got to get used, Dominators don't use such a thing!

I think tomorrow I'll perform an overall service of the bike, and I'll check the level of coolant

Thank you guys for your advise

    Re: Fan question

Remember to fill it with 50 /50 mix.
May be a good idea to drain it out and fill with new, it only takes around 2 litres.
