Engine Swop

I have blown up the engine on my 1996 XL600VT. I can get a 2003 650cc engine, will it fit and work? I am told the electrics may be different. Any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure it will fit. But i think it is completely the same engine as in the Africa Twin 88-89 RD03 650cc, and that engine will fit in the TA.
But why not install a RD04 750cc engine instead ?? I did it to my old Transalp, easy job.
