    Chain and sprocket renewal

My chain has come to the end of its life.
Looking at the various combos available, I need guidance as to,
Do I get a sprocket and chain kit or Mix and match?
I like the idea of the DID X-Ring chain, but it does not say what type of fitting it uses, Is it endless or does it have a link?
It does not come in a kit so I would then need to buy the sprockets separately.
Is it worth buying this way or should I just get a complete C & S kit. and rely on the type of chain it comes with?

hey stumpy......me again, we must be psychic because my next job after tyres is chain and sprockets!! been looking at Motorcycle Road and Race Ltd, Parts and Accessories but doesnt state what type ( endless etc ) plus doubt very much if vital front sprocket has rubber cushioning as with genuine honda part. heard plenty of stories of cheapo front ones chewing up splines on output shaft will end up getting front sprocket from mr honda without fail......not risking it !

I believe most chains have a "soft link" these days - you fit the main two pin link, follow with the plate then peen over the two pins (like a rivet head)

Of course there is a special tool if you have the dosh ! This preferable to most rather than hammerin the pins heads rivet like.

I wanted to try a different front sprocket but as said - with all the reports of aftermarket ones chewing shaft splines i think i i will stick to changing the rear

    Hi Stumpy,
Did the French weather get to your bike ?
Get yourself the best chain and sprocket kit you can afford. They dont take too long to fit yourself. Its just like Silvalp said.

Not the weather it is just it is the original chain and approaching 28500 miles it is one mark away from the arrows.
I do want the x-ring but was after suggestions from those who have already done this.
I think I may get the Honda sprockets form the Stealerships and buy the chain from Wemoto, just to be sure that I do not bugger the drive shaft.

    Re: Chain and sprocket renewal

    hi stumpy,
I had my chain replaced in january with a std honda front sprocket[playing it safe] and the did x ring [gold sided] chain the extra seals seam worth it and not much more money . also came with the removable link had it fitted by a garage as the back wheel spindle was seized .

Must renmember to remove every 2 mnths and grease up, well worth the £100 +£50 fitting. used std tooth did rear sprocket too, boy it runs smoth and after first 200 mls never had to adjust since.

ps I run dual side scootoiler.

    Re: Chain and sprocket renewal

Syumpy, OE C&S kits can be bought from D Silvers for about 90 quid - they come with an RK chain.

DID X ring last longer but cost more - it may be more cost effective to buy a DID kit, flog the front sprocket on ebay then buy an OE front.

I replaced the front sprocket again half way through the chains life as the chains last ages.

Both chains come with soft/rivet links and don't be fooled into thinking that the OE chain will be the correct length. Don't ask me how I know......

I saw them but thought about the bling factor of a gold chain.

That looks like a good deal
I might pop down to tippets and see how much the original front sprockets cost, As then I will be sure I do not wreck the drive shaft.
