    Temperature Guage Not Working

HIya, just got a TA and the temp gauge is not workgin - a friend of mine suggested i could get one that would simply attach to the handlebars and somehow have a connection to the engine so i know whats going on down there - any suggestions? As you can guess from the question, i'm not terribly mechanical - any help apprecitaed. TB

Is the guage thats at fault or the sensor?? if the sensors faulty the guage won't/ maynot register anything. May even be the wiring between the too you'll have to have a look at it. NO point buying another gauge then finding out you don't need it

I'm pretty sure it's the gauge not the sensor as the fans are coming on ok? But to get a new gauge i'd have to get a whole set of clocks (about €600) so trying to find a cheaper option so i can keep an eye on the temp. TB

TRAILTCH DASHBOARDS COME WITH SENSORS FOR WATERCOOLED ENGINES YOU COULD CHANGE THE COMPLETE DASHBOARD TO A TRAILTECH IF DESIRED FOR AROUND £50 AND THAT WOULD SHOW YOU ENGINE TEMPERATURE.

    Re: Temperature Guage Not Working

I have a Trailtech fitted to the XLV, with the temperature sensor for an air cooled motor, ( its attached to a copper washer that goes under the spark plug. ) the water cooling sensor is a short bit of pipe that goes in the water circuit.

I have the Trailteck vapour.. it measures speed-rpm as well as temperature they are about £70-80, they also have amber & red leds that can be programmed for alarms and gear shift lights

its nice kit and reasonably priced

bit more than a temp sensor though... I would not bother really, if the fans are ok.. the 'working' sensor on an Alp hardly moves any way..
but if you want piece of mind and a few more toys....

I think for the sake of £70/80 its probably worth it - are they easy enough to fit? Tara

quite easy to fit, though you will need to mess with the cooling hoses to get your sensor in.

the revs are picked up by just wrapping the revs red wired 5-10 times around a plug lead.. if you want speed you just mount a wee magnet on the disk ( they suppy a replacement disk bolt that has a built in magnet too ), the magnet triggers a sensor, you mount on the forks..

it quite simple and you get all the bits and a bar mount too

ohhh and the dashboard, is just that... Its a clipon external cover that allows you to wire in warning lights.. you will only need that if you are replacing your clocks completely, think there is a pick on mine in the gallery..

found it not a good pic but gives an idea

take care... dont worry, as long as there is water in it and the fan works.. the Alp will never overheat
