    what is this called?

Ok folks this thing fell out of my 1993 Transalp fairing supposed to go up at the top and a screw goes into it thereby keeping the inner fairing from rattling, ya sure. Then of course the PO cranks that screw down and guess what - this thing strips out the hole and no longer works.

So in my case the PO put some electrical tape on it and somehow managed to jam it back in and it held for a short while at least. The other one wasn't so lucky.

So what is this thing called? Rather than have to go to a Honda dealer to buy another one, anything else that will work? I gather I'm going to have to epoxy these in. Why oh why does this have to be so complex?

    here it is:

    Wellnut?

As you suggest, it probably is a well nut.

Have you checked the parts fiches in the "Tech Data" section? Link is at the top right of the page, in blue text.

The other thing to do is to pop over to the ZSF webiste - Honda Motorbike Parts - and tap in your VIN. Then you can check the parts fiches AND get the correct Honda part numbers.

    Hope that helps.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

That is one of the screw/nuts off the front faring. I had that happening on a 1994 Transalp I had.

A drop of super glue on the outside of the nut and you should be good to go

...and to get new ones, you need to buy the fairing they are mounted in - so glue is the best option

    Re: what is this called?

Well I do hope I can buy another one because I only have one. In fact if I had two I'd have epoxied them both in and not bothered you guys at all about it.

It does seem that many of them have been striped out, just wish there was something else I could use that didn't involve buying something from Honda.

As for the screws, I've order a bloody box of them, you can never have too many fairing screws eh?

Got this 90 minute epoxy, seems more like 48 hour epoxy... but when it does finally dry, man it works well. I rebuild one of my side panel grommet knobs, ya you know the ones.

I epoxied on a short piece of plastic tube bit bigger than the knob, when it dried I filled it up with epoxy than let that dry. Finally I took a roundy file and carbed that SOB to look just like a grommet-knob and it works great, like one solid piece of plastic. I'll have to take a photo of that one day.

Difficult part was getting the angle just right, so the oversized tube allowed me to carve it at the right angle, while trying it in place a few times until it fit.

I'm sure many of you have done this same thing for the Transalp sidecovers, funny part is I did have the plastic knob, but seems I put it somewhere and never to be seen again so I had to make my own from scratch.

Would have been a whole lot easier just epoxying the broken grommet-knob back on...

Try your local hardware store, they may have something similar
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
