    More power and better mpg...

I just thought I'd pass on my expereinces. In August last year I got my first bike, a standard 650 TA which served me well over the winter. However, I soon got the twitch, as most forum users seem to, looking at bits to improve and little tweaks here and there. My exhaust in particular was giving me cause for concern, firstly it had some severe corrosion and was a little rattly too and my god it looked hideous. Come on Honda make it look like a serious bike; as if its just finished the Dakar and not like a scooter.

My main concerns were expense, correct fitting and finally, adjustments to the engine. I settled on a MIVV exhaust which was good value with new header pipes from Germany topped off with a K&N airfilter. With the exception of adjusting the iddling speed, it all just one-for-oned with the stock parts they were replacing-dead easy really.

I've now had two tanks of fuel with the adjustments, one doing little in and out journeys and just over half a one on a long ride out. I've had more response from the throttle and a little more eagerness generally but the biggest difference has been economy (strange 'cos I've really been enjoying the new lease of life). Before any modifications I was getting around 175 miles from a full tank (around £16-1 before I was below the red on the guage. My first run gave me 209 to the same point and I've still got half a tank left with a 145.1 on the trip. Early indications suggest that these modifications have given me a 12.5% improvement on range and efficiency. I shall continue to monitor how it goes, but I'm really pleased with the difference.

    Hi Mate

Which model of Mivv did you go for? And, do you have any pictures of it fitted to your bike?

Just in case anyone else should ask.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

In case any one IS asking, the MIVV oval inox (comes in carbon, stainless and possibly aluminium) is available for the TA 00-04 and I got the header pipes from ABP Racing in Germany.

MIVV have a fairly long lead time; it took over 4 weeks for mine to arrive (in part due to being Italian producer and I forgot Easter is a big deal for them). You have to do an international transfer for the headerpipes, which seems a little odd but it works and once done German efficiency kicks in and the pipes arrived in a blink.

Clag 'um together and hey presto a new exhaust.......

Thanks Aubrey, really useful post as i am lookin at exhaust options although it will be a couple of monyhs before i take the leap. From the photo it looks like it fits behind your pannier rack, which has been a concern.
Looks good, and the inrease in range sounds even better.....
    Cheers

That does sound like quite an improvement for such a simple fix.
    Looks good as well.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
