I just thought I'd pass on my expereinces. In August last year I got my first bike, a standard 650 TA which served me well over the winter. However, I soon got the twitch, as most forum users seem to, looking at bits to improve and little tweaks here and there. My exhaust in particular was giving me cause for concern, firstly it had some severe corrosion and was a little rattly too and my god it looked hideous. Come on Honda make it look like a serious bike; as if its just finished the Dakar and not like a scooter.
My main concerns were expense, correct fitting and finally, adjustments to the engine. I settled on a MIVV exhaust which was good value with new header pipes from Germany topped off with a K&N airfilter. With the exception of adjusting the iddling speed, it all just one-for-oned with the stock parts they were replacing-dead easy really.
I've now had two tanks of fuel with the adjustments, one doing little in and out journeys and just over half a one on a long ride out. I've had more response from the throttle and a little more eagerness generally but the biggest difference has been economy (strange 'cos I've really been enjoying the new lease of life). Before any modifications I was getting around 175 miles from a full tank (around £16-1before I was below the red on the guage. My first run gave me 209 to the same point and I've still got half a tank left with a 145.1 on the trip. Early indications suggest that these modifications have given me a 12.5% improvement on range and efficiency. I shall continue to monitor how it goes, but I'm really pleased with the difference.
