New owner! - What kit?

Just got my first Transalp (03 plate), and looking at what additions are worthy.

Looking at a Scottoiler as one of the first - worth it? If so, basic or touring?

Also looking at luggage, however, am seeing some pretty high costs. Any recommendations on hard paniers and frames (already have a top box thrown in the deal)?

Noted from elsewhere on this forum the advantages of the MRA Vario touring screen, hence thats getting ordered this week!

Does anyone do any lower accessory fairings for the lower leg, or, do I just accept the (not huge) airflow there?

Anything else I should consider looking into?

Looking forward to taking it onto the continent!

P

Welcome to the forum matey,as for things to buy and accessories to fit it depends on your use and preferences. The list is endless,I personally would firstly recommend crash bars above all other things then a screen.
It's a big bike and everyone lays it down at least once,no matter what their experience and whether moving or not. the bars will protect expensive fairing replacement and you can take the accessorising from there.
Enjoy the bike and enjoy the forum.

Welcome

You may well be able to pick up some 2nd hand stuff if you lurk here and check the Sale/Wanted section often and do the same on fleabay. I prefer hard cases and have an aging set of Monokey Givi panniers and a cheap pannier frame, I do not do topboxes as they do not hold stuff that I want to carry. They can also screw the handling in my experience...

The screen can improve things, purchase an Airhawk seat if you are travelling any distance, your bum will thank you for it!

Hello Phl

One thing you should seriously consider is to get some crash-bars. The fairing plastics are really rather expensive to replace. Have search on "crash bars", there's been quite a discussion about which ones to use - myself I have ones by Grave (www.grave.cz).

I only have to usual Scottolier fitted, but with the dual injector - so that it oils both sides of the chain. There has also been plenty of discussion on DIY touring reservoirs - most seem to use sauce bottles!

I can recommend the MRA vario screen - taller than the standard screen and a LOT less buffeting than the Honda touring screen.

With the luggage there's been lots of discussion - aluminium or plastic, which manufaxcturer to go for etc etc. Personally, I splashed out on a Givi Wing Rack kit and plastic panniers. They do for me.

Oh, and excellent choice of machine.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Hi PHL & Welcome to the forum
As Lutin and Bt has said, crash bars ! all three of us have the Grave ones they are a great bit of kit, but you will probably have a bit of wait if you order them, email Eva at Grave, she may take a time to reply, but you wont be dissappointed and they can be colour coded to match your bike. If you want Panniers, you can furish Touratech with thousands or £300 will get you a pair of ARD Cases from a very nice guy called Roger, do a search for ARD cases and you should see my and Insaiwayne's posts about them. Have fun Blinging it up

Re: New owner! - What kit?

Hello and welcome to the forum, and to the Transalp as your form of transport.
I have fitted Givi crashbars and they have prevented damage to the fairing panels.
I have also fitted the SW motech side carriers. They can hold various tyes of pannier.
I originally had Givi panniers but have now switched to the Alpos ali panniers, same carrier just had to change the fittings.
Has yours gat a Centre stand, if not consider fitting one. Change the air filter for a K&N or Piper Cross as they help remove the flat spot, then you could change the exhaust for a better sound.
As you can see the list can go on and on.
