    Rear brake pedal noise

I am getting a kind a 'snapping' sound when I press the pedal down to slow it at a fair speed.

I've had a feel of the cable and it appears to have a fair bit of play in it, does this need tightening up?

Also the pedal is having to pushed further down than it should be so I'm going to bleed the caliper also.

I've recently changed the wheel, and put the old disc and calliper back on - any other ideas?

    What bike do you have?
The rear brake and the front brake are connected directly to the master cylinder.
If you have recently changed the pads did you bleed the system correctly?
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

If it's a 2004 model 650 Transalp, then it will have a hydraulically operated rear disc brake.

So, that's not a cable but a hydraulic line.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    1. I would check the caliper is seated correctly in its locating slot.
    2. Check the pads for wear, check piston is not seized
    3. check disk is not warped/cracked, are disk bolts secure.
    4. check brake fluid level behind side panel
    5. check rear wheel bearings
    6. If you have had wheel off, check alignment
    7. check pad retaining pins are not corroded.
    8. check caliper slider is not seized.
    9. Still can not find a problem, get a mechanic to have a look.

    10. urgently check everything before riding , as braking is sometimes very important. And a *Snapping* Sound is not normal and sounds like a mechanical issue rather than just a bleeding fluid issue..

good luck .. if you need any parts, re: caliper etc , check out david silver website or give them a call..

    Re: Rear brake pedal noise

I have a '05 Alp 650 and I get a 'squeeking' noise from the rear brakes at low speeds less that 10 mph. I have checked pads and disc but don't see anything wrong, it is only at low speeds so not worried about it.

I might try some WD40 all over the pads & disc, I am sure that will sort it out!!

be very careful putting WD40 on your brakes if you get it on your disc and you dont get it off straight away it can take a while to wear off and your brake performance will be drastically reduced during this time.

The squeaking is Usually caused by the pins being dry, causing the pads to move unevenly. DO NOT use WD40 on the brakes they will not work.
