    Sticky rear brake?

For some odd reason in warm weather my rear brake seems to be slightly sticking. It will be fine one minute then if i pull up to lights and sit on the rear brake as i pull away the acceleration seams to be rather slower like it's being held back. Also when i have the bike on stands to lube the chain you can hear the pads slightly rubbing the rear disc as you turn the wheel.

Could this be a sign the rear pads are on there way out or is it just a quirk on old TA in hot weather?

It looks like it is time to remove and clean up the caliper.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

It sounds like the calipers or slave cylinder need servicing, even try WD40 on the pedal linkage incase that is sticking.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

OK what parts do i need to spray on the rear braking systems and do i need to take the caliper off to do it?

Do not put wd40 spray anywhere near the back brake calliper.. It's fine on the pedal but that's it..

The brakes might need stripping down.. The slider pin might need degunking and regreasing (there's a thread in bike tech atm about which grease to use) and the pistons themselves might need a new seal..

    Re: Sticky rear brake?

Not really as the slider is the most common factor of a sticky brake.. Just clean them off and re-grease (not with standard grease but with either a calliper grease, or other high slip high temp grease designed for such parts)

You can though if you wish to remove the pistons and install new seals, just be careful as not to mark the pistons and follow the correct procedure for positioning/pre-wetting the new seals..and then of course you;ve got the brake bleed which is always fun ...NOT (well especially on my bike as it's got anti-dives and multiple bleed nipples per side )

    Re: Sticky rear brake?

Hmm a strip and clean sounds like the easy option.

    Thanks for your help

    Re: Sticky rear brake?

Just be careful as when you unbolt the calipers you might have to wiggle them and push the piston slightly back in, this will force brake fluid back to the reservior and might cause fluid to leaf, best to put a few large rags round that area and also cover up the bodywork..Nor really that much of a problem with synth brake fluid but the older type used to eat paintwork even so it can be messy so use the rags even if it is synth fluid
