    Tyres

    Hi all,

    Another post about replacement tyres.

My rear Trailwing is getting a bit thin and want to ask your advice.

Should I get another trailwing for the rear and then as there is alot of tread left on the front, wait til i can replace them both together when they wear out again x fingers at the same time (sounds like a plan but i doubt it will work out this way )

    Narrowed the replacements to ;-

    Dunlop Trailmax's
    Metzler Tourances
    Continental Escapes
    Avon Distanzia's

    Any Preferences, comments?

Apart from Black Circles anyone know of a good tyre supplier, online or in the north west?

On a separate note if you are thinking of gettin Givi crash bars, make sure the join behind the front wheel is well protected spent a whole weekend recently taking them off, cleaning them up and splashing generous layers of smoothrite on them but otherwise they are sorted. Skidmarx tall tinted screen is also a cool addition.

    Thx

    Re: Tyres

I had the same kind of dilemma on my TA700. The rear worn out but the front still with some meat on it. Bearing in mind that the Trailwings on the 650 are a very different tyre from the trailwings on the 700 (and also much more universally loathed), I'd be inclined to bite the bullet and change both tyres now to something like the Tourances or Michelin Anakees which seem to be the most popular options. On my TA700 I went for the Tourances.

    Re: Tyres

I am too much of a skin flint to change both tyres at the same time just 'cos one's worn out.

I changed the rear for a Michelin Anakee and still have the Trailwing on the front. I've lived with the mis-match for about 2.5K miles thus far, and apart from a bit of tramlining and weave in those grooves that trucks leave in the road from constant use, things are pretty much OK. Basically I'm riding like I did with both the Trailwings, although the Anakee feels like it would take a lot more abuse, especially in the wet.

Got some warranty work that needs doing [due to the Honda build quality slipping] and hopefully I'll combine the 2 jobs in one visit.

As I've said in another post, I'm a commuter so I don't stress the tyres like a sunday afternoon road-warrior would but from my limited experience things are OK. Ask me in a couple of weeks when I have matching Anakees and the front's been worn in and I'll tell you how they compare.....

    Re: Tyres

Hey, sorry for bringing up an old thread but thought it would be better than starting a new one. Gotta buy new tyers and been reading through all the stuff I can find on here and to the sound of it them Avon Gripsters are what I'm looking for, sounds like you get a lot of tyre for your money spent. Read about some place called Busters where one got 3 tyers for around £125, sounds amazing since I'm on a rather strickt budget from now on =/. Been googeling now for about an hour without any result.

I know they got taken off the market for a while but from what I could understand they got reintroduced because of high demand?

Could anybody direct me to where you buy these treasures ?

    Re: Tyres

I use Motorbike Tyres for mail order as they are quick and usually very competitive. They also have a fitting service..of sorts, where they use local dealers around the country to fit and balance your wheel and tyre for about a tenner.

I fit my own so cannot say how good this service is!

I prefer to stick to one brand front and back personally, unless the front is "as new".

    Re: Tyres

Well I changed both of mine. Back tyre was squared off and the front was 'V' shaped. No real question on whether to change both!!!

Went for Anakees in the end, they seem to have a good rep. Will let you know on my verdict once I finally scrub them in. Some fine weather to do it in would be nice. Tipping a bike in on new rubber in 1/2 inch deep water is not the most confidence inspiring thing to do. Gently gently now

    Re: Tyres

I went through 3 rear trailwings to 1 fron then changed to BT45 and wish I had done it after 1st rear wore out on my 650 'alp. Really like the BT45 and can see me sticking them on again but not needing to for a while.

With regards to cost/wear and still wear left on the front it could be seen a false economy. Would have to do the maths but don't think it will cost more. These are milages I got from my tyres and the wear so far.

    Front Trailwing 12k
Rear Trainling 4k (changed at each service)

Front BT45 5k hardly worn should get 12-15k or more
Rear BT45 5k slighlty worn should get 10-12k

I ended up getting a Metzler Tourances.. Thanks for all the help!
Payed 56£ for it including delivery. Gonna atempt to get it on myself with some help from a friend but my bet is I'll have to take it to a tyreshop.. Next time I'll do it myself for sure!
