Rear brake fluid reservoir screw stuck

As a few of you know I had the fun of cleaning my rear brake calliper and changing the pads. All which worked to solve the sticking issue except I noticed I can only remove one screw out of the fluid reservoir since the other one just turn but wont undo so in theory if I had a fluid leak on the brakes I cant refill them. Is there any way to get the threaded screw out or should I just buy a new reservoir and fit that?

hello......i take it your talking about the cover screws. sounds like the thread is stripped. have you tried taking out the good screw then pulling cover up carefully whilst " unscrewing " the bad one. it may just " catch " thread and come out. cant remember if threads are plastic or metal inserts. if the latter, maybe you could run a thread tap down into it as maybe only part of the thread is stripped. give it a go. hope that helps you a bit. good luck mate cheers ade

hit the bike breakers in person or on line and you will find one cheap. I found mine at breakers. All you got to make sure is its square not round. Paid £2 for it! Lot less hassle! Don't "David ouch thats expensive Silver" it!

So do you mean try and get a flat edge under the screw and force it out?

The screw screws into a nut which is slotted into the bottom of the reservoir casing. What happens is the screw rusts to the nut and then the nut turns with the screw mashing the reservoir plastic.

Try unbolting the reservoir from the bike and squirt some WD40 or PlusGas onto the embedded nut and then leave for a while. Overnight would be good. Once it's had a good soak, get a tiny flat blade screwdriver and try to wedge the nut to stop it turning as you turn the screw. Try giving it a slight tighten too - you just need to break the corrosion.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to get a new/used reservoir body and some new nuts and bolts. Grease the nuts and bolts before assembling it again.

Anyone know if i can fit a diffent rear brake fluid reservoir that would still fit my 600 TA since there are none aboutn on E-Bay. The closest looking one is for a NSR 125.

Just been quoted £18.50 for one 2nd hand

It's £20+ from David Silvers NEW

Wonder if it's worth just taking it to garage as it is when they put new rear disc & chain/sprockets on and ask them to bleed brakes but not tell then about it in case they have a trick way of solving the problem.

Just had another look at E-bay:

They looks similar to the Transalps wonder if it would fit?

use some spirits of salt from your local hardware store (32% hydrochloric acid, nasty **** but useful) to eat away at the rusty nut. Few hours should do the trick. Wont touch the plastic. Just be sure to read the safety instructions and do the job outside.
