    XL700 Tank slapper.

I have had a XL700 for nearly a year, I happened to take my hands off the bars the other day to adjust a glove strap, I was doing about 40 MPH & the bars started to shake, only a little at first but got worst & if you didn't grap the bars it would have you off, I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks. Crooky.

yes, there's a a thread about this dating from about a fortnight after the 700 was released, my alp suffered from it until I changed the front tyer to Metzler then problem solved.

Thanks for that, I never thought of tyres as I can't believe Honda would sell the bike with Bridestones that do this, I heard Pirelli Scorpiens are good but don't know if they would cure the problem.

uneven tread wear seems to be the cause, so a change of tyre seems to resolve the issue. Pirellis have worked for me on previous bikes, so I don't see why it wouldn't on the TA

I guess the lesson to take away from this is not to take your hands of the handlebars!

crooky, couldn't you have just waited until a safe place to stop or done it at traffic lights or something?

As with Stuart, a change to Tourance greatly improved the 700 (in my view anyway !)

    Re: XL700 Tank slapper.

They all do that govenor! The cure is to replace the tyres, I still use bridgestones but I'm sure the others are fine to. After 9000 miles in the last year, including overseas (and no I don't use it for commuting), its only really apparent if you let go with both hands, and it stops the moment you rest a hand on the bars. By the way I get about 8500 out of a front and 4500 out of a rear. It's he best alrounder I've owned out of the 30 or so bikes i've had, it really can do everything. I get (just) 200 miles out of a tankful, although 180s the norm. Underated cause its not a great looker and it's under 1000cc, maybe it's the perfect tool for those that don't have to try too hard. And one person can pick it up when they drop it, try that with a Vara! Buy the bigger screen and the honda panniers (they don't leak) and it's a top tourer. The further you ride it the more you appreciate its qualities.
