    Alp 700 Fuel Consumption

Here is a question for all you xl700 Alp owners.

When I had the 650 Transalp , I was a bit disappointed with the fuel consumption around 55MPG.

What is the consumption like on the 700 now that it has FI ? , I note that the tank size has been reduced from 19 litres (ish) to 17.5 litres (ish).
Has the fuel consumption improved by approx 10% to offset the rduced tank capacity ? that would mean at least 60 mpg from the new Alp - yes or no?

So what does a smooth, sensible , but not particularly slow rider get from it ?.

I have developed that "itch" and may be in the market for a new bike and have become all "Captain Sensible" again , the new Alp is a candidate.

Thanks in advance fer yer inputs.

    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

My mpg for my 700 is usually in the range 55-62 but I don't do any commuter journeys in traffic.
I did a 1300+mile up to Scotland and back and averaged 62mpg.

    Re: Alp 700 Fuel Consumption

I commute in and around London , mostly short journeys with very few longer trips so far , and I'm consistently getting almost exactly 150 miles to the tank - I've just looked and it's currently showing a mileage of 892 miles and the fuel gauge is flashing telling me to fill up .

Doubtless you'd better that on a longer motorway trip . My riding's mostly sensible-ish , with only the occasional bout of tw@t ( honest ).

Don't know what that equates to in mpg.

Just checked that - it's only about 40 mpg although I don't know how much is left in when I fill up . I'll check when I fill up tonight on the way home and do the sums .

Hey Twickers I thought had the only 700 alp that did less than the 55 mpg plus that everyone else seems to claim,

150 on a tank that size seems the norm. If I were goin new now it would be the Tenere without a doubt

    Re: Alp 700 Fuel Consumption

On longish runs I get about 55-57mpg. Commuting 8 miles each way into work, I'll get 50mpg.

    Re: Alp 700 Fuel Consumption

Just checked after filling up last night :

15.11 litres divided by 4.546 = 3.324 gallons (IMP), for 150 miles gives 45 mpg

For daily London commuting. Not quite as dire as I first thought, but not exactly brilliant either.

It does mean however that the fuel warning is a bit conservative, with another two and a half litres remaining (just over half a gallon).
