    Unplanned dismount!

I was just coming back from work and took a quiet back road home. At a junction I put foot down slipped on gravel and bike fell over, I managed to hold handlebar most of the way down. I picked the bike up and heard a big clatter but it was just a few spanners and lock in the topbox. After a close inspection the only damage is a slightly bent rear brake lever - well relived!!

When i'm going down unexpectactly i never try to hold the bike (xr400) just let it go no point fighting it, the bike will always win and trying to fight it or hold on to it will do you an injury of some sort. After all it's only plastic and metal and can be repaired or replaced

Oh young one listen to the Voice of expierience

as was mentioned do not try to hold the bike, just try to get out the way so the bike will not hurt you when she goes down.
As i am not in the XRV flying Corps(Whealie is in charge of that)i am more like Aehhhh the ground forces
Years of dropping and picking(sometimes by myself) my bike up have tought me a lot.
Best so far was 3 times in 1/2 hour(not offroad)
Just be happy you got not hurt, the rest always can be fixed

Cheers for advice guys, althought that is only the 2nd such unplanned dismount in about 12 years, last one was on ice so hopefully I will have forgotten it if I need to get off again.

    Re: Unplanned dismount!

I have dropped my bike a few times on hills.
it always goes the opposite way to where I want, I do try to help it lower slowly so as not to do too much damage.
It is when turning it around so that the wheels are downhill, in order to help pick the bike up, only to have it keep going over to the other side.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
