    Newbie - Centre Stand?

Hello, just bought a Transalp 700 and think my first purchase for the bike should be a centre stand. Is it worth paying the extra for the Honda one or is the SW Motech one ok? Are there any others out there? Anyway, thats my first post and question, I'm sure there will be more!!
    Cheers, John.

Can't comment on the SW motech one, but the Honda one works fine - though there's a definite knack to getting the bike up on it. It does make working on the bike much easier.

    ...and welcome!

    Japes

I've a spare brand new in box Centre stand and Touring screen if you're interested. Picked em up to save someone here some cash.

I'm in SW London, where are you ?

Sorry should've said that they're both Honda originals

Hello again ! A stand is convenient but I never bothered as its just adding more weight. I bought a paddock stand instead and are a lot cheaper.

Hello. Interested in your stand Dogmatick, probably not the screen as I'm not sure I can afford both at the moment!! I am in Lincoln so would probably have to be posted. Let me know how much you are looking for and I will get back to you. Can you email me from here or do I have to post my email on this thread? Cheers.

Hi Doug, yes I thought about a paddock stand but to be honest I think a centre stand is almost a necessity on an 'Adventure' bike for punctures etc. Funny how my CBR 'Sports' bike had one but the Transalp hasn't!

I'm not sure if you can Private Message me without a subscription. It's really worth it by the way, I got my Alp in may and the advice I've had from the other members has been invaluable.

I paid 150 for it so that's all I'm asking, I can check what postage would be on Friday when I'm back home to take it to the post office

    Cheers

    Guys

for those of you who have a stand, especially a Honda one - what is the knack of getting the bike on it? I've been riding for many many years and had many different bikes, but this one (XL700) is hard to get up on the stand. Every time I do it I get back and hand ache!

    Cheers

    Agree with that 100%

I don't think the balance has been calculated correctly when the mount point was placed on the bike, I find I need to be a lot more explosive with the upward motion. This is not a bike you can get onto the mainstand by only using the right foot and hand, it needs a good haul on the bars as well. I tend to 'bounce' the bike using the stand lever a few times and once the shocks have reached full extension I give it plenty of effort with the leg and both hands pulling up and backwards - not just backwards.

    If that helps......

A least it helps confirm that it's not just me doing something stupid!

    Thanks for that.

    Re: Newbie - Centre Stand?

Thanks for all the replys. My last bike had a knack to getting it on the stand. When I first got it (CBR600) I thought the only way would be with two people but after a while I was able to do it easily. A very similar action required to the one mentioned above.

Unfortunately Mr Dogmatick I have just had a massive reduction in pay this month and will have to cancel any thoughts of bits for my bike (well apart from the £3.69 Key Choob I have just ordered!). Thanks for offering it, if you still have it next month I may be able to take it off your hands.
    Cheers, John.
