    Key won't turn in ignition..

Oi again, sorry I feel like I'm spamming the forum but I'm having some **** luck with my bike the past few days and I'm gonna go traveling on the bike as soon as I get everything in order.

Hit another roadbump today when fixing my breaks, all of a sudden my key wouldn't turn in the ignition. Now it takes about 3 minutes of jiggling every time I want to unlock the steering wheel. Once I get it unlocked then it's no problem at all getting the power on. Just the part where it's locked. It kinda says klick everytime I try to turn it but well as stated takes an extreme amount of jiggling every time. Don't wanna head for Northcapp with risk of breaking my key in the ignition in the middle of nowhere.

I got my spare key out and it's got the same problem.

Any chance there is anything to do to save it or do I simply need to get a new one?

    Hi chap

Is it a 700? started having similar problem with mine . Intermittently its a real PITA to get the key to turn either to switch the ignition on or to lock the steering. Looks like Mr Honda may have a few warrantyjobs up and coming!!!!

Alex, two things both simple but worth trying.WD40 sprayed into the lock sometimes works on a lock that has gotten a little dry.push the key slightly into the lock to open the top first.....Second, if you have the steering lock on too, pull the bars onto full lock as you twist the key. Both of these thing have worked for me before on the other hand it could be F***ed and you would then need a locksmith (lasa smed) to check it with a F***ed meter.

As Soho says plus if you can find where the lock enters the Frame. now spray the area with WD40 and apply the lock, then respray the area.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I also recommend working the key in and out of the barrel when you have sprayed it with either brake cleaner or wd40,in an intercourse fashion,as sometimes one of the little brass slides will get seized inside the barrel and the working of the key in and out will sometimes free it up.

You should not use any liquid lube in locks

it attracts more dirt, once used you need to keep using it to flush the system depending on environment.

Dry graphite powder or graphite grease that solidifies should be used in locks

it could be that the last owner had a garage and secure parking at work and never used the lock and it has just become a bitch. Take pressure off the lock by pulling the bars fully to the left and keep moving the key in the lock with loads of graphite

You could flush any grease or oil (that has attracted dirt) out with brake cleaner

My 700 has been the same since new also, bit of spray sorts it though but obviously not perfect. Might try a warranty claim!
