Hello,
I will have some pics for anyone who needs to see it. For now I can say:
1. The base is damped horizontally (left-right). It's no hydropneumatic suspension but it's there. Damping on mine is quite soft.
2. The alu look is like metal. Or is it actual metal. Deeper investigation pending
3. The handle part takes a bit of space from the inside. Shame, but it has a handle.
4. By default there are only simple stretchy straps to hold (large) contents. No lining, just bare hard plastic.
5. Hinges look OK.
6. One key to open, one key to remove, one key to rule...Works OK.
7. The box is blocking removal of the seat! I have to remove the box first to be able to remove the seat. Not good. It's a close call, so maybe a solution can be found.
8. Removal/installation on base very easy.
Any questions?
Cheers,
VdV
I have the Honda top box and panniers, colour matched (gold) to the bike.
Top box is expensive but so far has proven invaluable: room for 2 helmets, and can carry laptop, clothes, lunch, etc., to work. It's on the bike almost all the time whereas panniers only go on when needed (easier to filter).
My pillions have also complained that it pushes them further forward and makes the ride less comfortable and so I have considered making a new mounting plate to move it a couple of inches further back. Still to have a go though.
Re. the other negatives previously mentioned in this thread:Panniers are well made but smaller than they first appear, particularly the RH one, where Honda have been over generous with the exhaust clearance. Fitting the mounting frame was a PITA! The weld nuts on the RHS (where the stay bolts near to the engine) were soft and I couldn't tighten the bolts to the correct torque; I resorted to putting a nut on the end of the bolt behind the weld nut but could physically only get a spanner around one! So far they've survived 8000 miles, so fingers crossed for the years to come.
- Key scratching the bars when the main key is in the ignition - I rest the top box key in between the brake hose and throttle cable, which avoids any rattling or scratching.
- Float/damping - this has never been a problem for me; no rattling or any sense that something is loose.
Hi all
I was lucky enough to get my Honda Top Box free as part of the winter package when I bought the bike. So nothing to compare it with, but it works fine, looks good, I can get the proverbial kitchen sink in it, and it almost never comes off the bike.
TRhe only thing I will say is there is a lable inside which states to keep the speed below 80mph when fitted. Not sure why, but I use it to keep me sensible.![]()
I have the Honda top box, which has excellent capacity,i have found the handling affected on windier days,so as such avoid using it,the problem i have had is the blanks that cover the mounting bolts have jumped out, four out of six so far.None seemed particularly loose, but they still disappeared, not as though you can glue them in either.Got to source some new ones as plate looks crap without them.
Inside of the box as it came from the shop:
