Hi,
Does anyone have the original Honda Transalp top box (colour or alu)? In your opinion - is it worth the money (~300-350€)? I can't find a decent review of it. How does it compare to GIVI or other similar?
Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I have the colour coded one (BLUE) on my bike. I think ??? I heard somewhere that they are made for Honda by Givi - but I may be mistaken , they certainly have the Givi type lock system fitted.
Mine is very well made and the finish is good quality.
But it is a very expensive option at £300 + I think there is a slightly cheaper basic grey one available.
The "de-luxe" colour coded one has a nice rubber mat thing to line the bottom and a couple of elastic retaining straps fitted, and a backrest pad fitted to the outside. - I'm not sure if the the basic grey one includes these.
Overall - it's a quality bit of kit - but you do pay top dollar for it.
ONE GRIPE - the key is the same type as the ignition key and can scratch the black ignition surround and the handle bars - I put a bit of scottoiler tubing over the blade of the key - but only after I discovered it scrapes the handle bars !!!![]()
2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!![]()
2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.
I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!
I looked at the Honda one, and bought a Givi instead. Still good quality (as Wee Jack says, I think they make the Honda one), doesn't have the coloured bits (but my bike's the grey one, so it looks fine), and saved quite a few pennies.
Wouldn't really want to do without it, particularly since, on the ABS version of the Alp, there's virtually nowhere to put anything.
I also bought the backrest pad, but although it fitted the box very well, her ladyship reported it was uncomfortable (pushed her too far forwards, and was too high). I took it off again.
Cheers,
I bought a genuine Honda top box from David Silvers for £50, it is a slightly different colour from my bike but it is not too different.
They still do top boxes Here slightly more expensive now but if it is like mine it will have the pillion back pad.
Basically there is two kinds of Honda top boxes for TA: colour coded (cheaper) or alu-look (more expensive). I am interested in better-looking-(hopefully)-better-quality alu-look box.
I checked GIVI cases on German Polo web shop - similar box (Monolock V46 silver) with dedicated TA700 mounting costs about 300€. With a package discount I should get this alu-look Honda top box for the same price...
So now I am trying to compare GIVI silver Monolock V46 with "Honda Alu" top box on basis different than just price.
I have the Alu-look top box. The alu-plastic panels are held on with small allen screws. I got the luggage as part of a bundle on a very minty used bike so I can't really say whether it's worth the money on its own, but the top box (and matching alu-plastic panniers) are nicely made items and work very well for me - though I do tend to use the panniers more often. THe panniers come with a spare key barrel for the top box so you can open the top box with the key to the panniers.
Hi,
Can you confirm that the mount for Honda box is damped as opposed to rigid Givi mount?
Hmm.. interesting regarding this:
Loose top box
And what the dealer says.
I have the "floating" mount on my bike - it seems to work just fine with no issues at all. It just gives a few mm of side to side movement.
