When I had this problem it was the tabbed metal washer inside the front wheel. I had bent the tabs flatter when refitting the wheel. I straightened them out and the speedo started working again. Have you removed the front wheel recently?

You'll see a shiny metal washer with two square tabs just inside the seal on the right side of the front hub. The tabs are supposed to be bent outward at about a 90 deg angle and are designed to fit into the two slots carved into the white nylon speedo drive gear in the speedo housing.

If you've not paid attention to this fact, the probability is high that you tightened the speedo drive gear against the metal tabs (tabs NOT in the slots) and flattened the tabs out so they no longer engage.

Carefully rebend the tabs, assemble correctly and the clock should function again.

If not, remove the white nylon speedo drive gear (it just slips up the shaft but is held in place by grease so will feel a bit stuck)and find the teeth have been ripped off by the steel worm gear inside the speedo drive.

Carefully clean all the old gear teeth and old grease out, replace the drive gear, relube with lithium grease. Reassemble.
