    55mpg average or there abouts.
Cheers for that. - and everyone else.

    All very useful.

It's not as economic as you think it might be. The economics don't drive me towards one, I'm afraid.

I think running costs should be more than just mpg, IMHO.

KTM 50mpg....a complete grinfest every time i ride it.....but...heavy on service intervals and costs.

WJ's new Alp ...gorgeous in RWB....60mpg and longer service intervals ( probably very important if you are a high mileage rider).

    Just my tenpenarth.

Anyone any info on the 800gs....Russ ??.

Chris, I am getting 230 miles to reserve regular as clockwork out of my AT, Its running a 17 front and a 45 rear. Most people say that it shouldn't make that much difference but based on conversations with a number of other owners at the national its a good 50 miles more than the average....
I'm running a sports Quill can without baffles and these sprockets other than this everything else is standard.
While in ullapool wigan chris and me went out for a 100 mile ride, we both started off with a full tank of fuel, on our return we re-filled our tanks, Chris squeezed in 14.5 Ltrs and I only managed to squeeze in 8.5

Just for the record at 80mph the rev counter is reading about 5700rpm

What's that like off-road/getting started from the lights 2 up? I wouldn't mind going to a higher ratio on my TA but I don't want to rag the clutch too much when I take her off-road. I wish the TA had a bigger gearing range :/

So, you thinking of going over to the dark side.

Those figures do make it tempting.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I increased hitting the red light (R04) from about 170 miles to 200 by changing sprockets. That's about 20 litres, so I have gone from just below 40 to more than 45mpg.

I get just over 5,000 revs at 80mph. It's sat at this speed that I get the better performance, sometime more than 200 miles for 20 litres.

But the sprockets make no difference about town or on twisties as I drop down a gear to keep the revs nice and high (4,000 or so) so engine braking and control (including accelerating) is at a maximum.

Maybe I should just ride more sedately.

I bet Wigan Chris's chokes are stuck.

Mine was similar to Chris's when i first got it.

Once i removed the choke cables the fuel consumption was/is similar to DC's.

My 100bhp, 156mph ZZR uses less fuel than my 650 and the other posts seem to suggest the 700 is not much better than the old one. The Z also gets you there before you've set off and is far more comfortable on the motorway: the Alp comes into its own in mixed riding, esp. in town. If you're going to be doing lots more motorway miles, I'd try out a cheap faired 5/600 and see how you get on.

Wanna try mine for a couple of weeks?
