They also said that my silencer had paint missing and surface corrosion and that they would put a claim in for that as well. The bike goes back to them this Friday afternoon to get the new silencer fitted.

Thanks to Robert and Richard in the Parts dept for getting it through.

    Good service all round.

This £35 was just for the prescribed checks and so didnt include an oil/filter change. I'll do that myself.
I would have done the whole thing myself but I wanted a stamp in the service book.

    Re: Service costs....

Hi all ,service costs is so a populair item. And it's unbelieveable how different the dealers charge for a fixed mile/km service.
You can be sure that a big ,shiny ,fancy bikeshop is not going to be the cheapist. Someone has to pay this dealer's big bank loans!.

When i was making a shopping tour for selling my 17 year old BMW R80RT and buying a new 700 ABS in the same place i always did ask information about service costs on the 700. And every time the more money they would give my for the BMW ,the higher the service costs for the 700 would be. That's what happend to Bluff ,he had a great deal ,no service costs on the 4000 mile service ,thats what he thought!. Afterall dealers are still business man ,they give what sounds like a great deal and take back what they lost ...the next time. The only way to avoid that is get the best deal you can get from a dealer (discounts ,extra options ,free services etc) and go to a other dealer for the services.

I understand your 600mile/1000km service is free or almost. I payed 250€ for that one because its include valvechecking ,like the manual says.

    The 4000mile/6000km (small) was 100€.

The 8000mile/12000km (big) was 237€ (again valvechecking and setting).

The 12000mile/18000km (small) was 111€ without the airfilter ,not available at that time. Will do this at the 18000mile/24000km.

And i have to live with the fact that all the next services will be more and more expensive because there's always going to be some part that needs replacement like tyers ,breakpads ,filters ,sparkplugs etc.

But hey ,nowbody ever sayed motorriding is cheap!.
I'am not paying these bills with a smile ,but i ride this great bike with a big smile!.

    Enjoy

    Re: Service costs....

When I bought my 700 secondhand the previous owner had serviced it himself at the 600 mile point (well he changed the oil - new filter fitted). I decided that as I was going to keep the bike a long time (I hope!) that with servicing being fairly frequent and expensive, to also do it myself. I have just done the 4000 service with a oil change as well and feel happier having found out more about the bike and knowing it was done properly.

I service most of my vehicles myself and always keep receipts for the oil and filters etc then sign in the book the same as a dealer would. I think most sensible people coming to look at a bike/car would be happy with that and the small amount you may lose on resale would have easily been saved in service costs.

My worst fear when taking a vehicle in for service is the quality of the oil they use. It's one thing you can never be sure of. You might be billed for some top quality fully synthetic stuff but then they could just stick in some cheap crap!! Maybe it's just me being paranoid but you hear so many bad stories I am happier doing it myself. Having said all that I can understand why with a new bike people want the Honda stamps so if you can get it done for a reasonable price then for some it is the way to go.

    Re: Service costs....

Blaaady hell, it would appear that I have been right royaly ripped off. There was no extra work or parts.

Just for the record it was BRIDGE MOTORCYCLES HONDA, EXETER THAT CHARGED ME £350.27 FOR A 8000 MILE SERVICE.

    It was mainly labour charges.

Can someone from the southwest contingent please please pleas recommend somewhere for my 12000 mile service.

    Re: Service costs....

Without prejudice and just for further illumination; herewith comments regarding the service that I made on another thread:

So the head bearing saga went like this:

At just over 6000 miles knocking etc... Honda dealership tell me it's just vibration through the brakes

    Nope it gets worse.

7,700 miles (a couple of weeks later) I phone dealership to book the 8k service and say "can you replace the head bearings as they appear to be shot, I will anticipate they are done under warranty as they shouldn't have been on the way out after 6k" answer: "don't worry sir we can just tighten them up"

So today 7,903 miles - in at 9 am for a 8k service and remind them about the head bearings. I arrive back for 3 pm but still not complete.... 3.30 I see the technician go road test the bike and matey boy comes back to me and says your bike is ready but the head races are shot and need to be replaced can you bring the bike back on Monday????

I now go ballistic!!!!! " I told you that several days ago! I am going to the bloody lake district on Sunday and will cover a thousand miles between now and the following week and you want me to just pop back on Monday?

Matey now scurries off and there is some motion back in the workshop, the bike is on it's side with mechanics wiggling the front wheel and a chuffong great spanner comes out to wrench my bearings down tighter!

"ok sir that will be ok you wil be fine until you get back for replacements"

"hang on.... At 3.30 your mechanic road tested the bike and you said it was fine but the races are knackered, then at 3.45 you are out there twating about with a big spanner and now declare that it is ok for another thousand or so, what the feck so you think you are doing?"

"oh yea the bike was fine sir, but in light of what you told us we wanted to male sure it was as good a fine as it can be"

    What complete nobbers.

They will try to push it through under warranty now, I asked if Honda had a quality issue but they said not and that
mine was the first they had come across, so I told them I was aware of numerous people with a similar issue.

All that for £350 and 7 hour wait.
