    Service costs....

Can anyone give me 'ball park' figures for the 4,000 and 8,000 miles services on a 700 please?

Also, any recommendations for a Honda main dealer, in North Yorkshire, to carry out the work?

Yes, I could do it myself, but I prefer to get the main dealer stamps in the book etc......In my experience, It's easier to sell a 'bike, with a full main dealer service history...No one trusts me, but they do seem to trust Honda....

    Many thanks......

My 4000 was done free as part of the purchase deal. Just had the 8000 done at £350.27

If you know how and trust YOURSELF to do the servicing correctly then do it, any increased residule value from dealer servicing when you sell it will be totally swallowed up by the LARGE bills you have paid for the servicing!

In forty odd years Iv'e never paid a service bill Iv'e always done my own,and never had a problem selling.
Anybody who has done their home work when buying a bike looks at the bike not the dealer stamps.

I do understand dealers have to make a living, but as far as I am concerned £350 pounds for the 8000 mile service is a joke!

Like I said.... 'In my experience'.....

Got to agree with the bill though......£350.00 is a joke.....That's more than a BMW main dealer charged me for a 12,000 miles service on my R1200GS......I appreciate that the 'Alp' doesn't have sticky out cylinders etc, but I thought it would be cheaper to service than a BMW......Not to mention that the BMW service intervals are longer too (6,000 main)...

    Anyway.....Thanks for the replies.....Appreciated......

Have a critical look at the service schedule in the handbook to see what's really being done at each service. Apart from oil & filters most of it is just checks and lubing a pivot or 2. About the only technical stuff is checking the valves. Whoever paid £350 has either been comprehensively ripped off or there was a bunch of other work and parts in there as well.
2001 Transalp XLV650. Faithful old friend still chugging away nearly 100,00miles
2007 Varadero XLV1000. Now you're torquing but sadly gone to another forum member. One of the best bikes - period.
Yamaha XT660r - slowly getting it ready for some big adventures

08 reg XL700 for the 8000mile service North Harbour Motorcycles in Ayr charged me £156 and at the same time they replaced my mirrors under warranty as they were showing signs of the reflective film at the back of the lenses peeling back.

They also said that my silencer had paint missing and surface corrosion and that they would put a claim in for that as well. The bike goes back to them this Friday afternoon to get the new silencer fitted.

Thanks to Robert and Richard in the Parts dept for getting it through.

    Good service all round.
