    Crashbar advice - xl700

This has probably been done a few times , sorry but I'll ask again !! What is the collective wisdom / opinion regarding crashbars for the 700 ?

I had Touratech ones fitted to my 650 and was reasonable happy with them although thankfully never "used them for their intended purpose" .

I heard there was a probelm with the Touratech version on the 700 and TT went back to the drawing board ????

Call me a Shallow - Vain - Poseur if you must , but looks are important here , I like the rufty tufty look to compensate for my obvious inadequacy and lack of self confidence this short, fat, balding, 51 year old needs crashbars that will have young women throwing themselves at his feet

So , What would you recommend then ????................... don't say "wig , built up heels and rohypnol" !!!!!!!
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

As you already guessed , there are a few threads on this already :

    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/transal...bars-help.html

    and

    Crash Bars fo XL 700

    being two .

Personally I've got the SW Motechs - they seem very chunky and solidly mounted , although thanfully I've not had to use them .

Unfortunately, despite having had them for several months, I can confidently say that they are completely useless at their primary function (!) of attracting hordes of nubile young ladies, and therefore could not possibly recommend them.
Transalp 700, heated grips, SW Motech crash bars, Barkbusters, centre stand, short@rse seat, Vario screen, Givi E21s, CR85 folding gear lever, Trax top box.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

I'm buying a new 'Alp but I won't fit crashbars. I think they are only worth buying if you like the looks, which I don't particularly. Otherwise I don't find them necessary. At least not if you intend to ride solely on the road like me. I might see it differently if I was going to ride dirt but I'm not.

Just my opinion, others will have different views I expect.

Just being a road rider isn't a reason not to have them. I was swiped by a Fiesta last year and although I felt the wing in contact with my leg, the GIVI bars on my 700 were taking the force and I was deflected safely away. I think the motech type high ones are better for off road than the lower GIVI ones but I'm really happy with them, have saved my leg and the bike when I slipped it over on some mud.

I'm a fan of crash bars, even though I hope I never have to use them.

Road rider or not is irrelevant in my view - I managed to write off a Kawasaki Z750 ( a road bike by any definition ) in a low speed spill on diesel , even though it was fitted with R&G crash bungs . Crash bars weren't available for that model , if they were then I would have fitted them.

I'd rather bend / damage a crash bar and have to replace it at 100-odd quid, than write off my bike.

    Just my view.

I dropped my bike in the garden while moving it.
I did not have crashbars and damaged the fairing.
Just because the bike is only used on he road means nothing, I have had crashbars on most of my bikes, and this is my first Adventure bike.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I had the Givi ones on my 700, easy to fit and looked fine but were prone to rust, might be a problem with all that sea air

Anyone got a 'bike fitted with the Honda spot lights, and then fitted crash bars?

Reason I ask, is that It looks a (possibly) tight installation at the front.

    Any issues?......
