Doesn't seem to mention them on the mot handbook site.

it just seemed strange that the ministry of transport do not seem to regard them as essential to the roadworthyness of the bike does that mean you dont need mirrors on my car., but the traffic cops have legislation for them
ps always use mirrors on your bike.
It's been a while since I looked up any of the relevant paper on this, but it's most likely a construction and use regulation, you can search the hmso website for it if you feel inclined - it's probably similar to the seat belt rules, if the vehicle has equipment fitted, then it must be used - gets into the whole type approval issue i suppose, if your bike didn't come to the uk with mirrors, or mirror mounting points, and was type approved for the uk by the relevant authority then you don't need them, but your bike was imported to the uk as having mirrors - so you need them on the road.
mot is a separate issue really to construction and use regs - if you read the small print on them they're effectively worthless as an indication of vehicle roadworthiness apart from the half hour it's in the garage costing you 50 quid.
I commuted all last winter on the ttr with no mirrors and enduro tyres. Regularly in the vicinity of a police officer or police car on the road. Never been given any grief. Might have just been lucky though.
Thanks for all the info on this,
Nice too see that the boys in blue are correct on this matter. on the plus side they may have saved my life considering i pulled out on them when they were excessively speeding to a call out. oops! still waiting for the video to turn up on Road wars. AF![]()
