Can someone point me to a suitable feed for heated grips on a '98 TA?

I've got some heated grips to fit in time for the winter.

Not being too familiar with the TA can someone point me in the direction of a suitable feed to power the relay coil?

Is it best to go straight to the battery for the power circuit?

    Thanks in advance.

I have heated grips fitted to mine.
I am in the process of rewiring them to feed only when ignition is on.
I am looking at splicing them into the fan circuit as the fan does not run very often in the winter.

You have 2 choices. Either onto the fan as mentioned or to the battery through a relay. If you use a big relay (30A) then you can have multiple outputs; one to heated grips, one to a 12V socket, one to DRL's, etc, and also your heated grips and accesories will only come on if you turn the ignition on- I wired the relay to the sidelight to come on, others have used brake lights or you can piggy back anything that's on constantly when the ignition is on.

I suggest using the rear brakelight connector for switching a relay. The input to the switch is powered only when the bike is on. The connector is easy to find, just behind the fuel tank rear and on the right side, near top of frame.

Make sure you get the input wire, not the output. See your wiring diagram to make sure.

One more thing, do not use a Scotchlock or that type of clamp on tap.

Do not use the fan. You could use the hot wire to the fan's thermo switch though.

You might like to consider heated gloves. They are way superior to heated grips because they warm the whole hand whilst heated grips leave the backs exposed. I bought mine years ago and have used them on a variety of bikes. My last bike, a BMW, came with heated grips but I rarely used them because the gloves are so much better.

I have used both and find the grips the best so far.

I don't understand that. How can the grips, which heat only that part of your hand in contact, be better than the gloves?

Grips are O.K. but the thing that I have found works best is a heated vest. They need not be expensive, mine is a DIY one that I have been using with no problems for years.

I don't know why they are, but I found the grips better at keeping my hands warm.
I may have something to do with the lack of fingers.
