    The T word

It was only a few weeks back when I last asked about Tyres and what people thought for a Transalp700.

Well the then new Trailwings have done over 5000 miles and are coming up for renewal. I cant go on like this every few weeks shelling out for tyres is absolutely flippin' silly!!

BT45s seem a good recommendation as do Anakees. I see on another forum someone is quite happy with Conti Trail Attack (I think thats what they are called) Whats gonna last and grip the road - I dont go off road with the bike but would prefer to keep the 'adventure' look?

I just want to really get this straight in my head before ordering another set of rubber. I havent had a problem with Trailwings but they have shed one hell of a lot of rubber in such a short space of time

Don't know how you got 5,000 out of trailwings my second rear did about 3,500 and was totally shot thats steady riding!
Iv'e now got tourances fitted and they are brilliant and its looking like they will be lasting more than double life of trailwings.

    Hi Bluff

I've used anakees on my previous 650 alps which used to last 8000+ miles. I've recently fitted a pair to my 700 so can't vouch for their longevity on the new bike yet, but they certainly feel as good as ever, handling-wise.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I check tyre pressures every three days or so and always adjust for loads. That is the only reason I can suppose they have lasted. The last set were fukkered at 4000. Tourances - how do they feel on the road?

What I dont understand is a softer compound should stick like hell to the road and wear quickly. But there isnt a queue of folk shouting out; 'my god Burt, those trailwings sure wore out quickly but by feck they stuck to the road'.

    Is this due to:

    a) my theory is bollox

    or

    b) a lack of peole called Burt with mates that own TA700s

    Re: The T word

Well, I agree with the soft compound on the deathwings, mine lasted just over 3000 miles.
Yes, they are soft compound, yes, they are sticky, I've touched down the pegs at both sides with them so can vouch for the roadholding.
My name's not Burt,,,, and hey, I don't own a Transalp either! I run a Varadero VA9 but same tyres, just a heavier bike. A lot depends on riding style, I make good progress on the road and most of them very twisty so the tyres are worked hard. I now run Anakees which I first ran on my Tiger 955i, 6000 miles to a rear approx. A very good wearing tyre, confidence inspiring in the wet and sticky enough to grind the footpegs! (In the dry, I'm not that brave!)

On my 650 I run Distanzias and have done 6,000 miles on them they still look new.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: The T word

I put Tourances on mine a few weeks ago, the bike feels so different and am loving it all over again. I've only done 1000 on them but still look brand spankin'

What sort of mileage are you doing every day Bluff ?
