I took mine into Ayr at 09.01 (opening time)
went for a breakfast, bought paper and read sitting by water
walked back about 11.30 and could see bike outside awaiting me.

Quoting my 2007/8 TA 650v and asking what the usual charge and service length and asking about independent garages.. This is their response...
Some update for you 700 owners i am sure the lump of plastic on a 650 will put some extra time on top of that..Honda Service Pricing Enquiry
Thank you for contacting Honda UK Motorcycles.
In answer to your query, we do not have flat rate servicing prices for our motorcycles as labour rates can differ from dealership to dealership, However, the flat rate time of an 8,000 mile service for a 2008 XL700VA8 is 3 hours 12 minutes. If you have any doubts of whether you’ve been overcharged for a service you can use this, in conjunction with the dealer rate, as a rough guide for pricing.
If you wish to have your servicing carried out by an independent dealer, this would not effect your warranty as long as they are a recognised mechanic and they use genuine Honda parts if anything needs replacing. I would also recommend obtaining a service stamp for future warranty claims and resale of the motorcycle.
I've also supplied the link below of the Honda Motorcycle dealer locate search engine if you would like to locate your nearest dealer.

Kind regards
Hmmm so am looking for an independent possibly in the manchester area, the search continues...![]()
Thanks for that, I shall pull out my service chit and check for costs against my service. In bloomin' fact Im gonna do that now!
Right!
So thats £250 on charges for servicing the bike (labour) £50 plus for parts and about £50 vat = £350
£295 of which (inc vat) is labour
Book time is 3 hr 12 mins which 3.2 hours
295 over 3.2 = £92 per hour labour charge
That was at Bridge Honda Exeter just so everybody knows.
Clearly not to be associated with the dealership I have just named otherwise this would be taken by 'm'learned friend wot is wearing a wig' and used against me.
But some of these people are really really beginning to annoy me, They are like that Danish King that tried to hold back the tide, what was his name.... I forget?????
Oh yes Cnut
They are complete and utter Cnuts!
Edited to add they have just quoted me £60 more on a set of tyres than the dealership in Plymouth... just for information

I got a postcard promotion thru today from Honda UK -
£99 winter health check - Oil & filter change and 16 point check
read the small print and it is a visual check of 16 point eg tyres, yes it has them, lights yes they work, bolts look tight etc. So £99 to change the oil & filter and tell u it need lots more done. There is an option of free bike pick up, honda assist for a year or discount on gen honda parts.
The valve clearance is the only tricky bit, and with patience and a small spanner is easily doable. There must be someone close by that could take you through it for the first time?
Bleeding the brakes, if you have to, just takes a steady hand and patience.
Balancing the carbs, you need a vacuum gauge, £20, very simple.
2006 Silver TA, Hid conversion.
Well, just to upset everyone my first service for the VA9 Vara was free, the 4000 and 8000 mile services were £45 each.
I appreciate the 12000 will be more expensive but I can live with that.
There are some benefits living here in the sticks, the roads, the scenery, no traffic, cost of living,,,,,, em,,,,,, jealous yet? Well ,,,, YOU SHOULD BE!

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: Quotes: Adventure
It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.
I need to do a major service on mine, it's at 19,000 and started making some alarming clunking noises yesterday when I was going slowly through town almost as if it was coming out of gear. It's been ok today and I took it to where I'm doing my basic maintenance course to see what they thought... The clunking hasn't come back so they could only guess that it was the cam chain or cam chain adjuster that needed to be sorted. From listening to how it was running they also said that the valve clearances needed to be sorted.
They quoted me about £200 to sort it all (as long as nothing else major came up) and I was going to do it with them so I could learn too...
Do you think this is reasonable?
Or does anyone live not too far from me (Brighton) who would like to help me do this??
I don't have any tools or a garage and so can't do it here, and I think it's probably a bit too much for the Winter Maintenance day in Nov.
Reunited with my trannie......
