    Broken blinker button..

Hello. Long time no see. My bike has been running smooth forever now so was time for something to break I guess ..

When driving home today I suddenly realised that the blinkers didn't work.

When I try to blink either left or right the sound of the blinker goes in to a frantic spasm and sounds like it's blinking like mad but nothing actually shows. When I push the button in very gently the blinker works fine for as long as I keep it in that place but as soon as I take the pressure off the button then the sound goes back to being spastic and no lights blink.

Please any suggestions, I really don't have the money to hand it in and get repaired, crossing my fingers this is something I can take care of myself. To me it seems like it's just a glitch somewhere that I don't know how to locate.. But maybe it's not =/..

    Thanks!

I cannot really think of a solution other than try loosening off the switch and give it a good spray with contact cleaner or WD40.
It may just be dirty contacts in the switch, I had a similar problem with my headlight until I found out it shared the same switch as the starter.

I'll give it a try, I can't seem to find any screws on the handle though other then the one keeping the clutch in place so not really sure how to loosen the button? or should I take the whole thing off maybe and give it a hardcore cleaning?

I think the screw is under the switch body, it must have one else it could not be replaced.
The switch is separate from the clutch mounting.

I had the same problem with my 600TA Just spray lots of WD40 in the gap where the indicator switch moves from side to side then keep flicking the indicators from L-R for a few minutes. I found it was condensation on the contacts. Never happens in the summer.

May also be a good idea to change the Indicator relay if the 1st solution wont work. Since i found both problems seemed to happen within a month of each other.

I would consider using a contact cleaner spray to clean out the switch.

If you use WD40 , it may clean in the short term but the lubricant in wd40 when dry will build up and insulate the contacts... causing more issues down the road..

you should be able to find contact cleaner spray at halfrauds or likes of maplin. or on the internet...

    hope this helps.

    Re: Broken blinker button..

the whole switch comes apart quite easily - very small phillips screwdrivers needed, and whilst a bit fiddly to put back together can be done. I have fixed mine a couple of times now - the cause is either a weak spring or dirt on the contacts.

    good luck
