Question TA600: Fork brace under the mudguard: how necessary are they?

    As the quetion suggests.

I had them on my Dommie a while back and now the same set up on the TA.

How necessary are the metal fork braces that reside under the standard mudguard? Or is it just a gimmicky thing?

After all, my XR didn't seem to need a fork brace...
How are TA forks so different

It was missing from the Africa Twin I broke for spares and I can't say the handling was noticeably different from one with it fitted. I'd say it's not really critical. Take it off and see if you can notice a difference.

I'd second Alan's advice, I know of, and have seen a few TA's and AT's with high mudgaurds without the brace.
Unless a your a big mudplugger I doubt you would notice too much flex (but I await others to differ)
Take it off (keep it somehwere safe ) and if it doesn't suit, put it back

I wondered if it is because the mudguards are plastic.
It could just be bracing for the support of the mudguard.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I'd agree with Alan & Shack, one of my bikes came with a high front mudguard & no fork brace, it handled fine. After fitting a new brace (and fitting a stock mudguard I could notice no difference in the handling.
