Positon the two springs and try using 2p pieces between the coils to stretch the spring then using pliers remove once in position.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: T/A 650 main stand

I have never had sucess with the 2p thing - ends up bending the spring. I have done this three times now and each time did it with a short arno strap (luggage straps) and a short loop of strong paracord.

Fit the spring to the stand, Para cord loop goes round the other end of the spring, arno strap goes through the loop and round the back wheel. This gives two options - big heave on the loose end of the arno strap will get the spring starting to stretch, then do a bit fine tuning to get approximatley aligned with the bracket. Depending on the angle you are pulling at you should be able to get a really good stretch. Then you can also turn the wheel by hand to get even more tension and get the alignment right to the bracket (assistant needed to put back brake on and hold it). Use a screwdriver (keep hands away) to push the spring towards the bracket and line up with the hole, then either ease off the arno strap 'til it fits or rotate the wheel back a touch. Dead easy

    Whatever you do, good luck.

I've done it once & that was enough.....

I think that I errrm struggled, actually I can't remember how I did it now but GOOD LUCK (you'll need it.....)

Well I did it ! i tried the suggestions but no luck , managed to fit the springs using two screwdrivers a large phillips and a small spade one , i levered the large spring down to the spring holder and the used the small screwdriver to flip it over onto the clip and then used some cord to pull down the smaller spring onto the same spring holder( clip ) many thanks for your help and replys

    Re: T/A 650 main stand

A mate fitted mine whilst I was getting over being poorly earlier this year. He used a lash up based on a length of Allthread (threaded rod) to fi some nuts, and bits out of the scrap bin, to make up a spring puller. I'll try to get more details after Christmas if you wish, (I don't really want to mither him today)
I still can't find a way of removing the sidestand springs 'though, the coin trick nearly worked. Take care! They'll have your fingers if they can!
    All the best.

    Re: T/A 650 main stand

I am about to fit a sw motech centre stand on the TA 650 but do not have a main spring as the stand was separate to the bike when bought.
Does anyone know where I can get a new spring from?? I cant seem to see anything on the internet specifically for bikes. Bare in mind its double wound as well..
    Help........

    Hi Tim?
    2 Suggestions,
I've just Googled SW Motech and it shows a number of decent UK Dealers, I'd try them first.
In today's VMCC Journal there is an ad from :
    Paul Savage 01527 521666(days) 01527 893151(eve/wkend)
He's in Redditch, where all the world's best springmakers come from, and he really understands Springs and Bikes.
Take care, and don't you need a special through bolt also? or have you already got that?
    Regards.

    Re: T/A 650 main stand

    Well nothing worked for me.
I had no garage and only very weak string.
Each time i tried to make a lever, the string broke or get stuck.

I managed to do it that way, not very conventional but so damn easy, can be usefull to share :

    1) Attach both springs on the bike
    2) Attach the little one to the chain with some string
    3) Move the bike foreard until the spring is a good distance
    4) Put the spring to the stand
    5) Cut the string

Repeat this steps for the bigger spring
    The procedure is like 10mn
