    Transalp XL600V starting

Hi everyone, hope you all had A good new year, this is just a quick question, has anyone had any problems with starting thier Transalps, occasionaly, which is even more annoying, perhaps when there is a bit of damp in the air my 99 plate 600v just will not start, it flattens the battery, on one occasion i had to leave the bike and get a taxi to work, i called the bike shop they picked it up got it in to the shop pushed the button and she started first time, the next time the bike shop stripped out the carb checked the fuel tank fuel lines etc and nothing.
    Any ideas.?

It is getting a bit on the cod side, it could be affecting the battery.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

My favourite suspect would be a bad connection somewhere. Have a go at checking the tightness of the battery connections and any bolted earth connections that you can find. Also give any spade connectors a good dose of WD40 to drive out moisture.

Always have a go at the simple things first before pulling the poor bike to bits.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

has the bike Haddock a shock at all or fallen over some plaice...

not so sure about the bad connection bit, usually a dodgy earth gives nothing at all, it wouldn't turn over, let alone flatten the battery.

Check the spark at the plugs first. make sure the plug leads are well connected at both ends. Then try & check the cdi's...

Hi Roddy a good chance that your engine kill switch is on the way out.I only ever used the kill switch a couple of times in the 13 years that i owned my 600 .And it failed twice two different switches. The engine would turn over but not start and would run the battery flat ,An hour or two later and it would start .Fill the kill switch with wd40 and flick it on and off about a dozen times and let it sit overnight ,That usually does the trick until the drier and warmer weather.Francis

Just remember the switches do like a good soaking with WD40 if they start to play up.

There Motad Desert bars. And sadly no longer made.
I stupidly paid nearly £200 for a second set from Germany following the 1st getting mangeled in an accident in 2008. But if it wasnt for them taking the brunt of the cars impact it would of been my leg so still think it was money well spent.
