A little upgrade on my 700

Hi everybody and many safe miles/km's in 2010!

Since riding in these dark ,cold and wet (snow) months is reduced to almost zero its a good time to update the 700.
So i ordered the small engine guard panel to protect the oil reservoir and the folding gearlever from Touratech.
When installing the engine guard panel it occurred to me ,okay one of the 3 holes in the bash plate is now protected but the other two holes remain open.
Meaning the left hole where exhaust pipe peaks out and the right one where the water hose is exposed.
So I’ve been experimenting with some race mesh to cover up both holes in a proper way.
Fitting and folding the race mesh in both holes did take some time but i’m pleased with the result.
Not wanting to drill screw holes in the bash plate i used TEC7 to glue several screws on the inside of the bash plate.
This little project has to remain premature ,so if i don't like the result on the bike ,its still easy to remove the glue and screws.
First glued the screws at some points and then placed the race mesh in its position.
Now i'am waiting so that the TEC7 can dry out above a radiator.
Once dry the nuts can go on the screws to tighten the race mesh to the bash plate.
Tomorrow the bash plate goes back on the bike.

However ,riding has to wait because of the snow here and there's more snow predicted for the weekend!.

Enjoy

That does look good, as if it was supposed to be there.

Yip - I like it ! What mesh did you use and where from ?

Also, do you think the TT gear **** is better than the stock Honda part ? been contemplayting one as part of the next TT outlay.

Grey Alp, looking at the TT engine guard does it come with some form of clamp to bolt it to or do you have to drill the bar that braces the frame at the front? Also, how does it mount at the back? Thanks, John.

Re: A little upgrade on my 700

Thanks Stumpy!

Ianinnic ,you can find race mesh in car tuning shops ,they have different sorts in size ,colours ,big holes ,small holes etc.
I'am sure the Honda gear lever is good enough ,only when you drop the bike the original gear lever will bent ,even having a crashbar. I've dropt mine twice so far ,once on concrete ,second time in the field ,even then the lever was a little folded. My concern however is the gear shaft that recieves a blow each time. Can't be good for the gear box.
So this TT folding one is a cheap and easy solution.

Japes1275, there is no drilling involved. There are 3 clamps ,you have to fasten all 3 on the frame. One in the middle ,you can see the screw between airholes 3 and 4 on the pic. Two other clamps goes left and right.
Easy job ,takes about 10 minuts once the plastic bash is removed.
You can download the instructions at this link Touratech Webshop

Enjoy
