RE: Pitted and rusty spokes on rear wheel!

Many on here have had this issue with the 700 - its a warranty claim - get it back to the dealer - many will replace with Stainless Steel spokes if you talk to them nicely - mine charges me £20ish as the difference between the warranty claim value for Honda crap vs independant SS spokes.

Chain lube: ACF aint enough on a chain IMHO - get a scottoiler if you intend to do miles (TLD2010) or cover in ACF50 for storage but oil the chain AFTER each ride with a lubricant like a bottle of Scottoil or other.

The wax isnt a bad option as it protects from exterior crap, weather and rust whilst maintaining a new chains seal and natural lube and adding a wee bit more. I done this for years on my VFR, also a V engine and I usually got 15k miles from it with average mileage being 5k/annum and a lot of storage. Just make sure you apply it everytime you finish your ride when the chain is hot. I cleaned it twice during the summer months using a chain cleaner spray as im too lazy to use the parafin and toothbrush idea....too many years of doing that on my bicycle also!

OFF Topic: Have you ever thought of doing motorcycle marshal at cycle races for the craic? Ive just joined the NEG that do all the major races/events in conjunction with BC. Good laugh if you know about cycle racing and can handle a bike - requires IAM pass or Rospa Bronze first at your own cost.
TA700 2010 - Givi full set, Centre Stand, Scotoiller with LubeTube, Honda Tall Screen, Givi Crashbars, OEM Heated Grips, Fenda Extenda, Bar Risers, SSteel Spokes, Arrow Race-Tech DarkLine Exhaust, even bigger smile!!

TLD 2010 - 600 miles, 18 hours travelling, 4 hours sleep and no pint of guinness!! Must go back for that....

I have been using a chain lube to keep well oiled, i was only intending to use the ACF-50 to protect the bike overall from the salt etc which we have a lot of at the moment in Scotland. I got a reply from the dealer yesterday regarding the spokes and exactly as you said Honda are willing to replace them like for like and if i pay the extra i can have stainless steel ones put on. Funnily enough Honda said it was due to our inclement weather that they tarnished and it doesent affect their strength etc but they are willing to replace them as a one off which doesent make sense as they have said they will go the same again ?? Regards the marshalling at the cycle racing i was speaking to some of the guys that were assisiting on the motorbikes at the last race i competed in so might look in to that. Cheers

Reading this thread is making me feel very stupid indeed. So far I've been spraying WD-40 on my Transalp chain to keep it lubricated. I take it this is completely the wrong product to use?

    Lord yes!!

Get thee to a bike shop for some chain grease. Where in London are you Col.? We have a member in SE26 who I am fairly sure would be happy to give up a few hours to give you a masterclass in Transalp maintenance.

Definitely, You can buy chain lube from most bike shops.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Heh, thanks for the info people, good thing I found out sooner rather than later

Fortunately I live very near a massive bike shop so I'll pop over there for some chain lube asap

Sorry, I don't understand. There are far to many words that start with "c" and end with" leaning" in this thread. I demand a moderator moves it somewhere more appropriate, like "OTHER BIKES". Bike cleaners hanker a secret desire to own custom bike clones, like bright yellow Honda Magnas.
