    Touring - 650 v 700

I had a good look at the 700 Transalp the other day.

It strikes me that the 650 is far better for loaded up touring. Better wind protection, more rack/luggage space and more space for a decent sized tank bag.

The 650 also seems to be better made.

Think I'll stick with the trusty 650.

    Or am I missing something

I looked at the 700 but I think the 650 is a better bike, better wind protection, better styling, better build quality just. It is also easier for home Maintenance as it has carbs.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

im a varadero rider, but i also have an XT600E. i had a 700 TA for a courtesy bike in the summer and was surprised how good it rode.
saying that, i did think it was more for style than practicality in some areas, the older models look better too. why no fairing on the new one?

    Re: Touring - 650 v 700

Been to Spain, Italy, Switzerland and France (bit obvious France - unless I parachuted into Switzerland.....)

I think the 600 and 650 make superb tourers (I've never tried the 700 but don't want an injected bike). Easily carry 2 weeks' of camping kit, do a ton on the M-way and fun on the small mountain roads when you get to the Alps.

Had my TA for 7 years, still love it and yes........it's black!

I have fast blue 650.. Love It

    A rode a 700 as a loaner, I did not like it ..
Of course the loaner was a demo machine that broke down twice (hss problem), chain too tight.. rear tyre nearly bald.

    Long Live Transalp 650

    Re: Touring - 650 v 700

    Not just me then.

Also I think the 700 has lost something by not having fork gaiters. They are essential to give the Transalp the Big Trailie look. Maybe Honda thought they would not look quite right with the small wheels? Speaking of which, if a wanted something more "flickable" I would have bought a hornet.

The day that I really noticed the quality of the 650 Transalp was when I had a test ride on the xt660 tenere. Yamaha must have subcontracted production to the same people that make bic razors.

Coming back to the 650 v 700. I think it is a similar argument with the mK4 and mK5 golf. The older car was built to a higher standard.

It must be time for some to defend the 700!
