After fitting a recently obtained Scottoiler HCR to the Vara this afternoon – a real easy job seeing as there had been one fitted before, I decided that it was time to fit the tool tube I recently purchased from that very nice man Kitped to my Transalp (thanks again Jason for buying these things in).
Having seen various solutions to mounting the tube, I decided that the original tool holder position was a good one, as when fitted there, the tool tube would sort of balance the exhaust
Started off by removing the original tool holder from a rack off the old ’89 TA that I broke for spares many years ago.
Here is the one I took off my bike, with tool holder fitted.
After removing the original tool holder & mount, I set about knocking up a plate that uses the original tool holders mounting points as well as the upper mounting point on the lifting handle that comes with the center stand.
Then it was a simple matter of bolting on the new tool tube after making sure that there were no interference problems between the side panel & tool tube.
Finally, with seat & side panel fitted back onto the bike.
All in all a very satisfying afternoons bodging. The mounting plate just needs a coat of paint to help it blend in a bit better (not that it’s really visible with tool tube fitted).
