    Fuel Exhausts

I am really interested in a replacement stainless exhaust from here Fuel Exhausts | Motorbike Exhausts Online | Motorcycle Exhausts Look to be quality and what a good price? Only problem is they say they haven't test fitted one to a 2000 XL650V-Y, just the 2001 on models. Can anyone think if there is a difference? I cant see any but would like to be sure. Also has anyone fitted one of these? are they good?

    Re: Fuel Exhausts

I have a Fuel exhaust fitted to my TA V6 .. I had the same question as they did not know if it would fit..

On searching part numbers for all the TA's the exhaust has the same number..

So it should fit ok.. I can not see an issue.

My bike with Fuel Titanium Exhaust

Want to hear the sound when fitted, see this thread. New Exhaust Can .. Christmas Present.....

Just in case, I would ask them if there was an issue could you get a refund, they seem I very helpful company when I dealt with them.

Thanks for replying, I thought as much and I will be putting my order in. I did ask Fuel Exhausts and they said they would refund, but charge a 20% re-stocking and admin fee so I thought I had better ask the Forum, you guys are so helpful.

Whilst I am fitting it, is it a good idea to get rid of the underslung box and lose more weight and gain more ground clearance? Would I need to re-jet if I did.

Yes remove the Catalyst if that's what you mean, but that involves removing the header pipes which you wouldn't have to do just to fit the end can and link pipe. You won't gain ground clearance though.

Rejet? - probably not as TAs tend to run rich. If in any doubt either keep a close eye on your plugs for lean running, or get a colour tune or get a dyno run.

FYI I have a GPR can, a removed catalyst, a K&N filter and smaller jets and it still runs rich. But that's my bike.

Thanks for the info, could I ask for a bit more? Have you a picture of your set-up? How did you extend the headers to meet up with the end can pipe?

No detailed pics, but you should get a link pipe together with clamps from Fuel that joins the 2. The can will probably be just a push fit into the link pipe.

    Good luck.

I think Largewayround has posted some detailed pics of his set up in the last 3 or 4 weeks. In fact if you look carefully at his pic in this thread you can see one of the clamps between the silencer heat guard and the footrest hanger.

edit.... DOH, just thought you meant the bit about removing the header pipes and the catalyst. The cat or "subchamber" is like a bulb on the side of the header pipes. Get the bulb bit only cut off as neatly as possible and as close to the main header pipes as possible then get a plate welded in place to shut it all up. DO NOT CUT THE HEADER PIPES SHORT TO REMOVE THE BULB. You would be in trouble then. Piguglyshandydrinker has posted pics of all this before search for threads and posts by him with the word "subchamber".

    Re: Fuel Exhausts

The fuel exhaust comes with end can and a link pipe. 2 x Stainless Clamps.
and a end can bracket also a big P strap around the exhaust .

Remove old exhaust, fit end can bracket to existing bolt hole (making sure that its correct way round)

Fit link pipe to end can with clamp .
Slide can / link pipe onto the existing pipework.

I dry fitted mine until I was happy, then removed , used a little exhaust fitment paste (halfords) . refitted everything, clamps and bracket loose.
So I could get lined up and everything square .. tighten clamps .. run

(Note: careful with the the bottom clamp,)
You can see in the picture that it has been turned , so the clamp bolt does not foul on the swingarm.

As for removing the cat.. I never did this as no welder and I did not want to mess with it ..

As for how this exhaust performs...on the road... NO IDEA>>>> Still Snowing Here

Oh, It does come with quite good instructions,..
    hope this helps

    Re: Fuel Exhausts

    Thanks folks,

after looking at the Subchamber removal threads, I think I will probably fit the new pipe without the subchamber mod to start with and see how things go.

    Re: Fuel Exhausts

My new FUEL Exhaust is here, two days from order to delivery. It took me an hour or so to fit it but this included removing and refitting the pannier rack. I am very pleased with the quality and appearance and ease of fitting. I've been out for a little test run of twenty miles or so. The bike seems more responsive to throttle and seems to run cleaner and crisper. It also sounds great, especially with the removable baffle out, it doesn't seem too loud though. I will post pictures when I have more time.
