Clean all the old dry grease out of the drive and re-assemble with fresh grease, . . . make sure the tabs on the big washer are contacting with the drive properly, they can get bent out of position when fitting the wheel.

The outer tabs locate in the hub, just a tight fit, so will have to be 'prised' out with a screwdriver or similar.

Hey Mate with mine i found that it was the connection between the drive arm on the wheel and the cable. A tiny piece of metal had broke off thus not working, as this drove the cable around.

    Try that?

It seems that the Speedo drive is the weak spot on Hondas, I had a few go on my CB500 & CX500's

Re: help help bloody transalp speedo

It happened to me one month ago, here are my conclusions:

first, to check out what is not working, cable or gear, just take out the cable out and spin the wheel. If the little metal piece spins, it is the cable. If not, it is the gear.

Ok, so it's the gear. Then you take it out but seems OK. It's not! If you had the chance to compare it with a new one, you'd see that it has prematurely worn out in the lower area, not the tabbed one. So, the white gear is shorter than it should be, so it doesn't reach the metal tabs in the hub, and consequently it doesn't spin. You have to buy a new one, end of story.

Then you take out the aluminium casing, and bath it in gasoline for some time. With the help of a brush, clean it as much as you can, so that mixup of grease, nylon powder and crap flies away. Once everything is totally clean, put grease to the top, insert the new white gear, mount the wheel, etc. Don't forget to grease up a bit the cable itself, given that you're already dirty with grease, so it takes longer to snap.

    Hope it helps!
