Ok, I'll post some when I've put it all back together and it ain't raining!

It's really odd seeing an R reg bike with 00686 on the clock - it looks brand new although I see a little speckle of rust here and there on the frame. It's black with a silver frame.

I'm off to buy my parts.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic, so after 13 years it will be next to useless.Having left the bike for 13 years the oil will be a gunge, get some light machine oil and flush the engine with that.
In 13 years most of the rubbers would have been replaced in normal use and not just from wear and tear. Otherwise I will pop down and take the bike off your hands.

Thumbs up Re: Transalp laid up for 13 years - what to do?

    Q. When is a battery not a battery?
    A. When they sell it to you without any acid.

    Do'h

If WEMOTO did that I'm REALLY surprised! Bad words are very hard to find about them to be honest.

Some companies cannot stock acid packs, and they are not really allowed to be sent by post.

Once you've got the acid pack, and added it, allow the battery to settle for about 30 mins and then give it a good charge overnight or with an Optimate if you have one.

Forks oil will also want to be done, and I'd really advise regreasing the head bearings as these are apparently pretty tricky and/or expensive to replace when they wear. The brakes are a bit of a weak point on the alp, coat the sliding pins with a bit of copperslip and check the seals.

    p.s: Lovely bike

To be fair - he remembered as I was leaving and gave me a pair of 'free' gloves and a baby funnel

    Battery now on charge.

So, I'm trying to remove the side fairings and, having removed the 3 retaining screws at the cockpit end, I have to pull the panel away to 'release the pegs from their grommets'.

But it doesn't want to play - I assume this will require a bit more force than feels comfortable?

The pegs frequently snap off the panels. . . . try to get a hand behind to push on the pegs, . . maybe a spray with wd40 if you can get to it.

    Only kidding (wishing really)

Everything Airwolf said, plus maybe take a good long look at the tyres - even after 13 years of no use, I'd say they would need retiring (pun intended) and fresh rubber fitted - once you've got the bike running!

PLEASE let us see the beast once you've got time to take some pictures

Definately change the tyres. They may look fine but the rubber will have gone hard and have little grip.

It sounds more and more like it will need a complete rebuild.
